Abstract
We are a team of managers at United States Postal Service (USPS). Upper management is concerned thatthe structure of the division our team manages is not accomplishing goals as efficiently as it could, As a result, management has asked Team C to review the current organizational structure and recommend needed changes.
Team C has noticed the organizational has not been recently updated. To begin the task, we must create an up-to-date organizational chart to determine the efficiency of the current structure. Then we must create a new organizational chart that represents …show more content…
Millions of mails/packages traverse through one of the 133 P&DC in the US annually. Looking at the current organizational chart, the command structure seems satisfactory. However, it could always benefit to change. One recommendation is to add a customer/employee relation section reporting directly under the plant manager. Another is to supplement the operations division with mail tracking unit. Implementing these changes would allow USPS to improve workflows and gain its lost customers. However, it may require funding due to hiring of additional personnel. If budget constraints do not allow additional employment, the alternate choice is to implement personnel reassignment to fill those new positions. Once they are approved/completed, provide training to make them competent in their new jobs. There could be a temporary dip in the overall operations initially, but in time, it should reap positive return on investment. Identifying the recommendations is only one piece of the puzzle. Making them come to fruition is also a critical part of the …show more content…
This is similar to instituting a quality assurance section who handles the quality of work and efficiency of operations. Systems currently use at P&DC are somewhat antiquated and require hardware/software upgrades. Although plant workers perform mail and package tracking, it is surprising to know that no one is accountable for its accuracy. Nobody is conducting proactive approach towards quality assurance. The current operations are functioning in reactive mode; meaning something has to break first in order to get attention. Having a tracking unit under operations division would minimize or prevent potential disasters; thus increasing efficiency and improving mail processing, which help in the overall image of the USPS.
