Teamwork
There isn't a big difference between being a great team member and being a great person. A great team member is one who is selfless, honest, respectful of others and respected by his/her peers; these are some of the same characteristics that a great person possesses.
The most vital part of being a great team member is being selfless. It is important that you put the team goals ahead of your own personal goals. Cooperate with your teammates instead of competing with them. If you are done with your work, ask to see if there is more work that you can do or try to assist the team members who have not finished their work yet.
Being a great team member means being honest with yourself and your teammates. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask your fellow team members for help, they'll more than likely be willing to help. If you are given a task that you don't know how to do or believe that you can't finish on time speak up and let your team leader know. If you make a mistake, admit that it was your fault, in the long run you'll earn a reputation for being honest and you'll earn the trust of your teammates.
It is important that you are respectful to others on your team. Being polite to your teammates is important, a simple "thank you" or "please" can mean a lot. Take the time to listen to your teammates and give constructive feedback whenever the opportunity arises. If you see a problem within your team, don't just complain about it or place blame on others; instead, come up with a resolution to fix the problem.
Being recognized as a great team member doesn't happen overnight, but if you are persistent in striving towards becoming a selfless, honest and respectful team member, you will win the respect of your teammates.

Being a part of a team is something that an athlete should not take for granted. Being considered a true teammate is the goal of any team player. He who puts the team before himself at any given moment, at any time, on any given day, is a characteristic of a quality teammate. A teammate should possess many qualities which make him have a better connection and a better bond with the team. Every team has leaders and followers, as well as hard workers and the non-workers. These titles show that a team is a diverse group that must gel together and become one unit. The great Kobe Bryant once said, "I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning…

My most significant experience in working as a part of team occurred when I was apart of the softball team. Without my teammates I wouldn’t have learned all that I know now about softball today. I was familiar with the softball players. We helped each other improve, whether it was with running, practicing drills, catching, or throwing. We never left a teammate behind. During practices we all ran as a team. During games we also chanted when the batter hit the ball. With out my team I wouldn’t have been as good as a softball player. So to me with teamwork come new friends and wonderful coaches.…

Teamwork is characterized by having a sense of purpose to achieve a clear, specific goal that all members believe is important to attain. A team can be assigned to carry out a specific project, such as seeking ways to improve profitability in a small business. A team could also be assembled to find the right candidate for a job opening. All teams should consist of members who are capable of contributing to the achievement of the goal based on their level of knowledge or expertise. If a team is assigned the task of development of an expense budget, but one or more of the members has little or no budgeting experience, the whole team will suffer as a result. A successful team contains a spirit of cooperation. All members need to work together to achieve the specific goal. This can be difficult, especially if some members possess strong personalities or are highly opinionated. Successful teams tend to have strong leaders who can keep everybody on the same page while keeping the petty bickering to a minimum. Teams should also have a set of rules that determines its operating procedures. These rules help to keep the team on track and eliminate ambiguities. For example, a team might have a rule that all team members must agree on a decision before it can be implemented. This would require that the team deliberate, much in the way of a trial jury, until a consensus is reached.…

    Team Communication

A major obstacle for team members is the lack of basic communication. Without communication team success is highly unlikely. Interaction is important, as it shows how team members work together to accomplish tasks and perform effectively. Communication is especially important to coordinate and cooperate with other team members to achieve collective goals. "Being an effective team player calls for frequent and extensive communication" (Hughes, 2003, p. 22). Once individuals recognize the importance of communication, they become aware of how successful communication can be. "Skillful communicators think like mediators, focused on mutually desirable outcomes as opposed to winning at all costs. Relationships are important to them, and they recognize the need to tailor their comments to the listener in order to be heard" (McCarthy, 2007, p. 6). Members should actively communicate and encourage each member to participate. Every member of the team should also be allowed to state their ideas, give suggestions and express their opinions. This allows every one to engage in open discussion. Valuing each others differences and viewpoints allows every one to feel part of the team. In turn, members believe they are a valuable member and can contribute to the team 's task. "Members contribute to the success of the team by using their unique skills and talents" (Bragg, 1999, ¶ 6). Once ideas are presented and individual skills are identified, the team can establish each member 's role and individual tasks. Team members can work on tasks and communicated…
