Ten Tips for Impressive Job Interviews

Interviews are the most challenging meetings anyone can have. Not only we have to make certain that we are dressed properly but also we must arrive on time and we need to know what exactly to say, when to say, and what questions to ask. Being prepared will boost our confidence and will ease our anxiety. The following ten tips help everyone attend an impressive job interview:

1. Do your homework on the company: We need to gather maximum details about the company and the future it may hold for you. The best way to gather information is by testing the products of the company, visiting its websites, blogs and press materials etc. Check the companies ranking in the stock market if applicable. This will show that you are well-informed and you did your homework properly.

2. Practice your answers: There will be some commonly asked questions for which we can keep a draft of good readymade answers. The answers can be practiced by speaking loudly to a tape recorder or to a friend or to a family member until your answers will sound normal. We have to make sure that the answers are not overly rehearsed also.

3. Dressing: We need to decide well in advance that what we are going to wear for the interview. Conservative and apparel are usually appropriate. Don’t wear jewelry like bangles and earrings that makes noise. In some companies the dress codes are relaxed, in that case we can select appropriate dress. This information can be collected from the employees who are working in the company. Your appearance is what you make or breaks what could be an enduring first impression.

4. Arrive early: Accurate directions to the interview site should be collected well in advance. One alternative is taking a dry-run trip to estimate the time required to reach out to the venue on time. We can also plan where we will park or find which building to go or which entrance we can use.

5. Make a lasting first impression: The interviewer

While you may shower each day, however, special attention to your hygiene should be made on interview days. If you are male, be sure to shave and trim your sideburns and beards or mustaches. Getting a haircut—whether male or female—is a good idea on the day before an important interview. Furthermore, you want to make sure your nails are trimmed. And if you are a woman, avoid flashy nail colors; again, this might distract the interviewer. Women should also avoid excessive make-up. Rather, use make-up only to accent your natural features, avoiding too much blush or too bright a lipstick. In addition to good attire, meticulous attention to your personal hygiene will greatly improve your chances of making a good impression in a job…
