Interviews for both internship and permanent recruitment across the corporate sector will usually focus on an individual’s fit to the company and passion for the industry. Interviews can vary from two to four sessions and will be predominantly focused on competencies for the role.

The interviews are usually conducted at first round by a recruiter / HR manager followed by second round interviews with the line manager, sometimes further interviews with other members of the team.
So what do you do once called for an interview? It is imperative to do extensive in-depth research into every aspect of the company from share price and growth forecasts to customer experience and key risks. The key steps are listed below:

2. Speak to alumni who work at the company (use Portal Directory)
3. Speak to students who have interned at the company / competitors (use the Summer Internship

4. Research the company and sector – use industry publications visit industry websites
a) Who are the company’s competitors?
b) What are the values of the company? (usually listed on the company website) – some
c) companies will base the interview on these i.e. Amazon will focus on their leadership
d) principles
e) What is happening in the industry over the next 5-years?
f) What is the CEO most concerned about?
g) Follow the company on Twitter
5. Use the company’s products / website from a customer perspective (personal and business customer): a) Are you able to critique the product?
b) What product do you like the most and why?
c) What could be improved?
d) What new product would you launch?
e) How does it work / how do they make money (i.e. for Google how does AdWords
f) work? How do they make money from this?)
