Tersteegs Contribution To Grocery Store's Success
Shopping 101 Although all grocery stores strive to sell goods for profit and become better than their competition, the store does not have the ultimate decision of how successful they are. The customer, in fact, has at least half the say in a grocery store’s success based on the customer’s decision on where to get their groceries. A consumer’s response to factors like prices, inventory, staff, and originality, will play an important role in the success of grocers. Both larger stores like Walmart and smaller stores like Tersteegs can achieve success with the approval from customers. One main factor that contributes to grocery store successes would be prices, and affordable prices are always favored by customers. However, people will be more …show more content…
A friendly staff will always leave a positive, lasting impression on their customers. At smaller stores like Tersteegs, kindness goes a long way. What Tersteegs lacks in prices and item variety, they makes up for in smiles. For example, Tersteegs’ employers have a requirement to say “thank you”, and/or, “have a nice day” and smile while taking care of each and every customer. The staff knows most of their regular customers and will greet them happily by name, as well as all the other customers, while checking out the shoppers’ items. The cashiers never fail to put a smile on their customers’ faces. However, at bigger stores like Walmart, reaching all the consumers with a positive attitude is harder to reach. As a result of Walmart’s size, employees avoiding customers, and vice versa, is easier to do. This gives Walmart a lower chance of connecting themselves within the community, and leaving a great impression is harder to do in comparison with Tersteegs. Kindness goes a long way, especially in grocery …show more content…
More specifically, what makes the store unique, or why should buyers go to this store rather than another? Tersteegs provides a deli section, for example. The deli section at Tersteegs provides rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, meatloaf, and more comforting foods, from noon until seven at night. This provides meals for some families that do not want to cook, go out to a sit down restaurant, or eat unhealthy fast food. Tersteegs also has a bakery that has an option to make cakes, cupcakes, and decorated desserts for birthdays, anniversaries, and other celebrations. They also provide fresh baked delicacies such as donuts, cookies, and pastries. However, as a large generic grocer, Walmart does not have the ability to easily modify their store. Walmart has a president and one head company that will tell each Walmart when to switch things up, and how. As a result, each Walmart is very close to being the exact same. However, Walmart does sell a wide selection of clothing, home goods, and over the counter medications, unlike smaller stores. Originality leaves a great lasting impression on consumers and helps make stores stand

Traditional grocery stores have fallen by the wayside as supercenters and specialty food stores grow. They are increasingly looking for ways to differentiate themselves from the rest of the competition. Oftentimes, the supercenters are able to offer lower prices on food while offering a sizeable selection of other goods that food-only grocery stores find it hard to compete with. Some of these changes have come by mergers and the ability to purchase more for less and changing their appeal in the market. These stores have implemented new technologies such as self-checkouts and biometric technology that allows people to pay at the checkout with a scan of their finger to sway the consumer with convenience. Grocery stores are also differentiating themselves by touting their store brands, as premium goods as opposed to the well know value brands. They are changing their layouts and up scaling their stores to meet customers demands for a reason to enter their retail dwellings. Some groceries are offering even more convenience with the addition of specialty offerings such as Starbucks and fast food restaurants.…
