Why do we need to learn Algebra? What’s the point of learning Algebra in the first place? After all, all of the math leading up to Algebra that we learned growing up such as addition, multiplication, decimals, fractions, et cetera that seems to have a concrete meaning?
This concept all deals with numbers, in some way or another, and because of this we can apply it to our daily lives like calculating, and in our chosen career.
In short, these all deals with numbers and basic Math. Now, as a first year student, and incoming second year, I encountered Algebra, and suddenly, we are not only dealing with ordinary numbers, but with letters or variables (exponents, and other symbols). In the beginning, we are asked to learn rules on how to calculate things in Algebra, I learned which steps are to do before other steps and if you do them in reverse order, obviously, you get the wrong answer.
Learning Algebra is achievable for everybody. You just have to take things one step at a time. This explains simply that Algebra is a stepping-stone in learning about different things around our world. With it, you have the tools to understand things and you also have the skills needed to continue on and learn Trigonometry and Calculus, which are essential for exploring other types of problems around us.
Therefore, I conclude that Algebra is not a boring list of rules and procedures to memorize. But I consider Algebra as a gateway to explore the world around us.
