The Controversy Of Shortening School Week
It has recently come to my attention that other schools have been thinking about shortening the school week to four days instead of five. Of course, at first glance, this proposition sounds like all of your dreams have come true! Three day weekend every weekend! However, there are many reasons that schools should NOT enforce this rule.
First off, the government requires you to attend school a certain amount of time a day and a certain amount of time a year. With five day weeks and normal hours, we go to school thirty-six weeks a year for about seven and a half hours a day. With four day weeks, we would have to go to school an extra hour and forty-five minutes and for another nine weeks. This would leave only a couple weeks of summer vacation.

Children would most likely lay around. More junk food would be consumed due to kids not knowing or wanting to cook meals. It sounds nice to just be able to lay around, but isn’t the two day weekend enough? I think even if it were to happen, which it shouldn’t, parents would have to probably put exercise regimens into order or cameras in the house.
However, there are some people who would actually want this. They argue that it would allow more time for homework and relaxing. Trust me, kids barely do their homework now, so they would leave it all until the free day and then the day would be spent on homework. There would be more time for bad internet use, not studying! Most people who think that there should be 4 days do not think about the consequences.
Overall, schools should definitely not have four day weeks. With extra school days, more accidents, and more junk food, it is generally a bad idea. If your school board is thinking about putting this into action, make sure your classmates and the school board know the risks. I predict that four day weeks would only make children and parents angry. Always know what you are getting yourself into and always study the

On the other hand, Critics believe that students should be spending more days in school rather than fewer. In fact, in the United States of America many states require school to be in session for a minimum of 180 days, which is almost three weeks less than other developed countries in Europe and Asia. For instance, China and Korea have more than 220 school days (Kingsbury). However, a four day school week will not reduce the time spent in school. It will redistribute the time going to school into four days instead of five days. Therefore the school days will be longer in a four day school week to encompass the correct amount of hours required.…

Changing the five day school week has been argued for and against due the controversy as to whether or not it would actually be beneficial to students and teachers. When approaching the idea, many people would like to believe that five day school weeks are the most efficient and productive way to educate our youth. What is often overlooked, however, is that it is causing students to dread school more than they already do, and lessen their willingness to be in or attentive at school. Not only this, but many teachers easily get behind on either grading or lesson planning, while the school could actually save money when switching to this schedule. By refreshing the way the school schedule has previously been, we can address the issue of exhausted students who don 't truly learn anything, teachers who are overwhelmed with work and the economic questions within America 's schools. Providing both students and teachers with a more equal week of break and school time by having Wednesdays off will make students more willing to attend school, give the teachers time to furnish their lesson plans and give the school a break in costs.…

British imperialism in China and India brought very different responses, in part because of the nature of imperialism in each place. While both regions were greatly influenced by the British, in India the country was placed under the direct rule of the Queen. In China on the other hand, the "spheres of influence" were economic, and did not entail direct British rule. During the British imperial age the culture of China continued on much the same as it had before, while in India the British tried to replace the Indian culture with their own.…

If four day weeks were introduced to schools, the students and schools will both benefit. The schools will save a significant amount of money and students will excel academically and behavior will improve drastically. Whenever we have a student/teacher holiday, less students are absent and behave because they are looking forward to less days of the week. When students have less days to worry about, it will make them work harder so they can finish of the week sooner.…

The traditional schedule for school is outdated because in the old days, it allowed for children to help harvest crops during the summer. Now, the long summer just enables kids to be lazy and easily forget what they learned at the end of the previous school year. If a year round school year were to be implemented, kids would not be able to be as lazy and breaks would not be so long as to let kids forget a whole bunch of their school curriculum.…

With the 9 week long break from school students lose much more information. Students lose a month of information they were taught the year before during their summer break. Once non year round schools return to school teachers are having to reteach most of the information that the students learned the year before. 24% of teachers spend the first five to six weeks of school reteaching material that the student has already learned. Non year round students score lower on test at the end of the summer than they do at the beginning. Non year round students have not been in class for an extended amount of time so they generally forget what they were taught the school year before.…

Therefor I don’t think our school board should add time to each school day. I think we should keep our schedule starting at 7:30 and ending at 2:30. That way we can get home do chores, play and go to any afterschool activities. If we changed our school hours that would interfere with parents/guardians work schedules. Now with the schedules our school has we don’t get to restless with the teachers or other…

It may sound logical but Dr Von Hippel has debunked this myth after completing an experiment. He states, “Students in “year-round” schools don't learn more than their peers in traditional nine-month schools... A sociologist at Ohio State University found that, over a full year, math and reading test scores improved about the same amount for children in year-round schools as they did for students whose schools followed a traditional nine-month calendar.” There's no academic improvement and on top of that many people believe that year round school is longer than a normal school which is also false. They have the same amount of days as a traditional nine-month high school however Instead they have “tracks”. So track 1 could have school for 3 weeks then they would have vacation for 3 weeks while track 2 has 3 weeks of school after coming back from vacation. This also limits who is seen by who every day if two people’s schedules do not cross. Public students should be given what's best for them. If year-round has no academic improvement then why should summer be taken away? At least summer benefits students with nutrients from the…

The traditional school schedule is out-dated. Summer vacation finds its roots in farm life. In years past, children would attend school in the months that parents could spare their help. When school let out for the summer, many students would trade in their formal education for one more practical, yet just as important. The schedule made sense then, but fast-forward to today’s society. Less families farm and the ones that do don’t rely as heavily on manpower, especially their children. Those who oppose year round schooling argue that summer camps and family vacations are an important part of growing up and would be missed if summer vacation were done away with (“Leave Those Kids Alone: The Case For Long Summer…

If they were to change the traditional school schedule, it would be a lot of confusion especially for parents that have to worry about getting their child to school. It would also cost our country a lot of money to switch the traditional school schedule. By eliminating summer break, students would not be able to experience the joy and freedom of the summer and the special time that would usually be spent with family and friends. Then when everyone goes back to school, they reunite with their friends from the last year or meet new people. If you take away a student's ability to have a vacation you increase the risk of…

The clause “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State (Constitutional Convention, amendment II)” barley announces a purpose. It doesn’t limit or expand the outlook of the clause “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. (Constitutional Convention, amendment II)” The clause’s text and history merely states that it connotes a citizen’s right to keep and bear arms. The military consisted of all males that was capable of acting together to form a common defense. The Antifederalists was in fear that our federal government would take away the firearms of the people in order to stop citizen militias, therefore allowing a political standing army or to select a certain militia to rule.…

    Year Long School Year

Many schools in the United States are beginning to change their school calendar so their students attend class all year round. The changes still allow the students time off in the summer, but they do not have the three months of break most students in America receive traditionally. Instead, they get a break of a couple weeks in the summer, and the remainder of the time is divided up and put into other breaks throughout the year. All schools in America should switch to a year-round calendar to accommodate the different and higher level of learning needed to be successful in our changing world and society. The traditional school system was designed many years ago when our country was an agricultural nation. Therefore, the school calendar was developed having a long break in the summer so students could assist their family with cultivating crops and other aspects of farm life. The traditional school calendar was not a calendar for higher learning, and should be extended to meet the needs of modern day students. There are many explanations as to why the traditional school calendar should be changed.…

Moreover, having students stay in school for more days can help the school meet its needs. A better explanation would be schools would have no problems, economically. To prove the point, students buy snacks, lunch, parking, and materials. Students don't realize how much they help the school pay its bills such as diesel, supplies, and utility payments. Having a four day school week can increase the…
