The Girl On The Train Quotes
The theme of dominance is used in The Girl on the Train to portray the male characters’ abusiveness and control over their spouses. As a manipulative individual and a good liar, Tom is the prime example of this theme. Tom takes advantage of his ex-wife’s blackouts and lies to her about hitting him with a “golf club,” leaving “hole in the plaster” (261). Accordingly, Tom makes Rachel feel sorry for everything, and he tells her, “you’ve no one to blame but yourself” (299). Furthermore, there is Scott, who exerts dominance over his wife, Megan. Unlike Tom, everything Scott does to Megan comes from his goodwill. He wants to protect her and get to understand her more. However, his care gradually becomes overprotective and makes Megan feel discomforted,
