The Giver Chapter 24 Summary
Jonas had just finished a small shelter for now 6 year old Gabe and himself. It has been 3 years since he left the community and he was starting to become weak. He sat down on a nearby log and thought about his old life and what his parents were thinking now. They probably figured he was gone forever. It was clear they had stopped searching for him. He wondered if they even noticed Gabe was gone as well. In his opinion he had saved Gabe from being released. Even though Gabe wouldn’t have known what was going on, Jonas did, and it was to much for him to bear. He wondered if there was a new Receiver back in the old community. Was the Giver still alive? As these thoughts scrambled through Jonas’s head, Gabe was in the woods trying to find even a scrap of food for them to eat. Food was scarce and they …show more content…
What happened to the community?his parents? His sister?
“How is the community?”
“Well everybody thinks you are gone, they kind of forgot by now I guess but, since you were the receiver the people treasured you more. “Some say you let the community down. “Others say it was your duty” I’m not entirely sure”
Jonas was relieved that nothing bad had happened to the community but, he was also feeling kind of guilty for leaving in the first place. He started out to be so excited he thought he was going to change the world, but as years went by he realized it just wasn’t possible.
“What about my parents and Lily?’ Jonas asked and as soon as he said in Fiona's smile dropped into a droopy mess.
“Well your mom is ok but your dad” she paused
“Go on “ Jonas said eager but nervous to hear the results
“He signed for a release” Fiona finally got the words out and they seemed to come out in slow motion, just spreading the pain.
“No” is all Jonas could manage to get
