Business and family should never be mentioned in the same breath. In The Godfather parts 1 and 2, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, Michael Corleone, a war hero who happens to be the son of Vito Corleone one of the most powerful gangster ever, comes home to make the family legitimate and eventually becoming the Godfather of the Corleone family. Michaels text, which he believes to be true about himself, is better than his actual subtext, making him an anti-hero. Michael believes that he is a good person for fighting in the war and saving lives. Because of this Michael thinks his text is true about himself. But Michael realizes as the movies go on he for a fact was born to become the Godfather

He bring to the wedding a non italian girl name Kay. As the two talk at the wedding they begin to get into how the family works and Michael claims he is nothing like his family. Then they get into how Vito helped Johnny start his career as a world famous singer. Michael begins to talk about how Johnny was caught up in contract dispute with this guy and Vito fixed the problem. When Kay asked how did Vito help with the contract situation Michael explained “Luca Brasi held a gun to his head , and my father assured him that either his brains or his signature would be on the contract. That’s a true story. That’s my family Kay, It’s not me.” Michael explains to Kay not only the dark background story of how Johnny career start, but makes sure that Kay know he is nothing like his family what so ever. Michael is really staying true to his text. When Vito gets shot, Sonny takes over as the head of the family. Pretty much outraged about his father’s shooting, Michael slowly starts to become part of the family business and the more time he spends with the business, the less time he has to spend with Kay. Michael telling Kay that it is way too dangerous for her: You know Kay, there’s gonna be detectives, people from the press.” Kay doesn’t like the situation but kind of understands what’s going on and then she asks michael, “When will I see you again, Michael?”. Both Michaels text and subtext are shown at the same time. The text is about family and going to the Baptism and becoming the GodFather to Connie’s baby. But at the same time the subtext is Michael’s men going out and killing all the heads of the other families. During the killings the priest is asking Michael questions. “Michael Francis Rizzi do you renounce Satan?” “I do renounce him.” Priest goes on, “And all his works?” “I do renounce him.” Finally the priest asks “And all his pomps.” “I do renounce him.” During this part of the service show each of the heads of the families murdered one by one. Michael believes he is doing the right thing by killing off the families making the Corleone family the most powerful. After the Baptism the family returns home and there Michael asks Carlos to meet with him. Michael knows the Carlos setup Sonny to be brutally murdered. We he confronts Carlos about it Carlos lies and says he didn’t do it, he’s innocent. Michael also knows the he beat Connie too and feel disrespected by Carlos. “Only don’t tell me you’re innocent because it insults my intelligence and makes me very angry.” Carlos admits to everything and Michael’s says I’m not going to kill you but I never want to see you again. So as Carlos is driving away from the house one of hitman are in the back of the taxi waiting for him and as soon as he closes the door he chokes him to death. As all of this is happening Michael watches with no emotion
