The Good Or Bad King: Is Ulysses A Bad Leader?
In many ways, Ulysses is a bad leader. Many of his action involved the death of his men. He told Polytheismus that he was there and he was the one that stabbed his eye; Polytheismus told Poseidon about Ulysses and was very angry with Ulysses; he was on Ulysses' tail ever since the incident. Basically he is a BAD leader. His men died because of him. Many of Ulysses' men died because of his orders or what he's done. When he told them climb a vine like beard, all his men died by being eaten. He also pushed one of his men overboard. Ulysses has burned un-hostile people just for the money. He has killed innocent people. Killing Innocent people leader-like act. It just isn't. Killing people for money is a mercenary.

Sometimes leaders can get distracted, even the great ones, but it is their job to realize that they made a mistake and must suffer the consequences. Some leaders only lead for the glory. Although Everett can be considered a good leader, throughout the journey he usually seems to care for his own self. Although the Coen Brothers appear to provide Ulysses with a sense of leadership in O Brother Where Art Thou, in reality they portray him as a selfish, desperate man in order to suggest that a life where one only thinks of themselves will lead to destruction.…

A sign of Odysseus's leadership is when he was facing the heard ships from the Cattle of the Sun God. He knew that they had eaten the cattle so he said "I withdrew to the interior to pray the gods, for hope." (P.789) This shows that he knew that his men had messed up so he decided to help them by praying to the gods which shows that he tried to help his men. Another sign of leadership is when he sacrificed himself to keep his men safe. "I carried the wax along the line , and laid it thick into their ears." (P.784) This shows how much he cares about his men and how he will sacrifice himself for his crew.…

King Odysseus of Ithaca survived the Trojan War. While most of his other men returned to their native lands immediately following the war, it took Odysseus ten years to journey home because of his lust for other women and desire to prove he was superior to everyone. Such as all his men dieing. I addressed that already and it isn’t Odysseus’s flat. Another one might be that he cheated on his wife. The first time he cheated he was forced, but the second time he cheated it was by choice. The second time however he was trying to get the answer to something and the path he chose was the easiest route to take. It was that or being stuck at sea for who knows how much longer. The murder at the end of the book can not be overlooked either. Killing is wrong but when the story was made it was ok. Of course I wouldn’t want my hero to kill people, unless it’s a war hero. I don’t think that this can make him not a hero. He was getting revenge. Many people have been blinded by rage.…

During Odysseus’ journey, he had to work together with his crew just as Magellan had to work with his own. He led his crew and ran into lots of dangers along the way that lead to many adventures, like the Lotus Eaters and the Cyclops. I think he is a good leader because he is strong and can make decisions without hesitation. Though that can be a good thing, it also could be a bad thing because sometimes you need to give some things a second thought or give yourself some time to think them through and make the right decision. I think Magellan also has that same quality.…
