The Implementation of Industrialised Building System (IBS) in School Projects in Malaysia.
OVERVIEW OF THE TITLE
The Malaysian construction industry is undergoing a transitional change from an industry employing conventional technologies to a more systematic and mechanized system employing the latest computer and communication technologies (Haron et al., 2005). Industrialised Building System (IBS) is a construction technologically advanced which produced prefabricated building components where it is assemble on site.
It is very systematic that can overcome current issues occurred in Malaysian construction industry. The IBS system may involve in planning, managing and maintaining the quality assurance to reduce waste in terms of material and cost. Besides that, the quality of the components is ensured that it has no defect and can be delivered on time. Industrialised Building System (IBS) capable of reducing the number of unskilled and foreign workforce, provide a safer working environment on site, shorten the time period of construction process, ensure the quality of the structural works and cost saving.
For this dissertation is to study on the implementation of Industrialised Building System (IBS) to the school projects. The aim of the study to be carried out is to identify the implication of IBS to the school project and to analyse the factors contributing the cost of IBS project. In order to support this dissertation, one (1) newly completed IBS school project has been taken as the case study.
AIM
The aim of this dissertation is to establish the implication of Industrialised Building System (IBS) to the school projects and to determine the factors contributing the cost of IBS project and the results of certainty of cost saving that has been claimed as for IBS project.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this research are:
To investigate the implication of Industrialised Building System (IBS) in school project.
To identify the factors that are
