The Importance Of Marching Band Competition
Before every competition I think of the purpose of why marching band competitions are so important especially to me. First it shows of my talent of being a big influence for playing trombone. Second I’m representing the school by playing in the show and working hard showing and telling people I’m from Beatrice high school and im proud. Third the most important thing my grade. Unless I have a really good excuse like getting surgery you never miss a band competition. If i miss a competition the next day I would have an big fat F in class. And that would kill me more than the grade itself getting killed. But I’m a freshman what would i know! Until one competition changed my life and a day I will never forget. It was at Lincoln Seacrest …show more content…
But looking in front of me was a judge and he was in my spot. I could feel the adrenaline rush going through my veins into my heart. Timing is everything. I needed to get to my spot at a precise moment. But someone is in my spot, a judge, and I sure can’t ask him to move. My concentration was blown and I had to think fast. I decided to stick to my plan and run him over. Every step I took trying to get closer to him while getting to my spot, my legs instantly got electrified. I got closer and closer and, right there I scared him and I stepped right in front of him, while he jumped in horror from not seeing me. After that I played my last note and popped my horn down. My life felt so complete after my attemption of running over a judge. I walked out off the field so confident, if you said something mean to me I wouldn't care.
A few weeks later in my band class we were listening to the recordings of the judges comments. At first I wouldn't even thought of hearing the judge I attempted to get run over would say he did. While the class was listening closely my band director Mr. Johnson turned up the speaker for an odd reason and right there I heard the judge say “theres a trombone player almost knocked me over”. After that everyone praised me. This is what changed my life

I am writing concerning Tripp Moore, whom I have come to know throughout my years as the Flomaton High School “Hurricane” Marching Band drumline instructor. As Tripp’s instructor, it was a pleasure to get to know him. Tripp has been a great student of mine and it has been my pleasure of being able to teach him. He has some great qualities of a human being and qualities that you would love to see in a leader. Tripp’s hard work and his dedication to music helped him as he joined band and made awesome strides to be on the best percussionist. Tripp also dedicates his time to being a part of the Flomaton High School Jazz Band, and being the drummer at his church First Baptist Church of Flomaton, Alabama. Tripp will one day be a great leader in his…

Dear Principle Spencer, Associate Principal Lee, and Athletic Director Fry: You do so much for this school. The goal of success for all students is incredibly apparent through your actions. It is obvious that the football team is amazing, and so are the other sports. They all put forth hard work, and earn their greatness. But you are neglecting a major part of home football games: the marching band. The Turpin Marching Band is one of, if not the biggest team in the school, with 150 members. These people train just as hard as the football team. I can tell you with experience, with how many times I’ve pushed a heavy synth cart through the mud, or up the hill to the stadium like King Sisyphus’ boulder in the underworld. I’ve marched so hard I…

To those of you who say marching band should not be considered a sport because it doesn’t compete, that isn't true. Marching band should definitely be considered a sport. There are competitions within schools. And guess what, there is scoring and ranking. Also, if carrying and blowing into a heavy instrument while walking a mile in seven minutes isn't physically exhausting, then maybe you just are more athletic than average. You must be physically and mentally healthy for marching band. Also, you must practice a lot and memorize music and drills. You also go to practice at school as much, if not possibly more, than a football team.…

Marching band is analogous to a machine. All of the components must properly function in order to complete a certain task. Therefore, each member should possess dedication in order to produce a triumphant show and capture the audience’s attention. If one member fails, the whole organization collapses. Through these experiences, I learned that determination and dedication contributes to a successful lifestyle. Otherwise, dreams could never exist.…

I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…

I knew the credit I got from my friends wouldn't be worth the consequences but only realized this after the fact. I was only in the court house for about an hour but it felt like four. I was consumed with the feeling of stupidity. I wanted nothing more then to make up my community service hours and forget about the decision I made.…

When the typical person thinks of sports they think of football, baseball, or basketball. While those are all great sports, what about those sports that aren't classified as sports, but should be? Marching band should be considered a sport for many reasons. Marching band teaches many of the same lessons that can be learned through sports, such as: dedication, academic responsibility and the importance of physical health. I have gained knowledge of these things through marching band. With that being said, I feel that I would be a great candidate for this scholarship.…

Along with self discipline, marching band taught me a lot about time management. From June to November a large chunk of my time was taken up from practices, football games, and competitions. Throughout this, life never stopped. I had to learn how to manage school work, a job, family, and marching band. This meant giving up a lot of my free time and learning how to prioritize. Time management is a vital skill that anyone can use. Learning time management within marching band has provided me with the skills on how to balance school, work, and my social…

Sweat drizzles down my skin as it exits my pores trying to cool my heated body. The blood rushes through my veins pumping blood with the consistent pounding of my heart. Every breath, every second, every action, every thought; I am standing where everything counts. Artificial turf and grass crumpled beneath my torn black shoes and the thick silence only cut by the timed chants from afar. This is the last moment I will stand here for this reason. This is the last moment I will stand here with my family. This is the last moment of my marching band career. Many will say that this was a special group of kids, others will say that this year was a show that was made to make it. I, on the other hand, will say that this was because of seven years of dedication.…

This year, my first year in Color Guard and Marching Band, I’ve learned discipline and what it means to be a part of something bigger than me. Working with the other girls on guard, we work as a team to learn our routines and how to stay in sync with our flags which takes a lot of hard work and repetition. During our long, strenuous rehearsals, it is important to stay focused and pay attention to directions. By setting an example for the younger members, I hope to show them what it takes to be successful in what we do, because it cannot be done without a huge amount of commitment and pride to represent West and our Marching Band program.…

I am student that is involved in the arts and sciences more than sports. I never played a team sport in high school, but I feel that marching band and musical alike have allowed to learn and later demonstrate the mentality of both a leader and team player. Tennis and marching band are two extracurricular activities that require both dedication and commitment. Prior to entering my first year of high school, I decided that I wanted to take my love for tennis to the next level and make the O’Fallon high school tennis team. In 5th grade, I committed myself to playing the alto saxophone in the school band and all that entails with lessons and practice, with an eye on playing in the high school marching band. During high school, I made a commitment to participate in the Rose Bowl Parade in California. After making that decision, I found out I made the tennis team. Practicing both these activities in the summer and playing during the fall semester put me at odds with my parents on what should come first tennis or band. The amount of time needed for both activities to succeed was monumental and would be an uphill battle compared to the actual time I had. This caused internal conflict knowing that one will not get as much attention as the other. At that moment, I decided to come up with a solution to my problem then put it into action. One way or another I had developed two answers. I realized to become good at band and tennis something had to change.…
