This excerpt attempts to connect engineering and principles related to engineering to the sport of baseball. It starts out with an engineering student that asks a question about the loyalty towards the work he is assigned to do in the near future if the work doesn’t agree with his moral principles. The questioned describes to the reader how during his time they didn’t worry about those issues. They had different issues back in those days. However, he notices that today these sorts of problems can arise as a result of the widespread doubts about modern day technology.…
When I go to the grocery store, I like to count up all the grocery prices in my head to find out the total amount before the cashier rings up everything. Sometimes I can get the exact price out in my head down to the cents, even after tax. However, every now and then, I am off just a little bit. Even if you do not like math, you are still are going to have to use it one way or another. Some jobs require these skills and just by excelling in math, you could earn extra money. With my math abilities, I want to get a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering then get a career in the field of computer software, computer programming, or maybe cyber security. All of these careers will involve math on some type of level and are all great careers to have. I want to use my talent to affect as many people I can in a positive way, and create products that will make people around the world lives much safer and easier than it was…

When it comes to the game of baseball the real player has to be well known with the tactics of pitching the ball and hitting it at right areas. Pitching the ball in baseball at accurate areas with speed is essential on one side and hitting the ball accurately for runs on the other side. Kids love playing this game and so lot of educational institutions come up with introduction of this sport in their academics. But to be effective and successful in the game it is essential to practice the game a lot and get proper official training.…
Imagining a career founded on helping people and bettering their lives puts a smile on my face. With so many diseases and events in the world, there is a need for constant innovation when it comes to medical devices and research. A solid foundation in mathematics is needed to venture into these parts of the woods, so that is why I have decided to take AP Calculus during my senior year. It is a challenge, but those limits sure do have a way of staying in your head! Mathematics is interesting because it stretches the boundaries of how hard…

This quote relates bad hops in baseball to obstacles in my life and making great plays to overcoming those obstacles. This brings me to my laws of life which are how to deal with failure, and how to make the best of a bad situation put before you. I will be relating both of these laws to experiences I've had in baseball. I made the realization that failure is healthy and can only make me stronger. Before I made these realizations, whenever I would fail I would get down on myself and lose confidence. I’ve also had to make the best of an unfortunate situation that occurred during the baseball season. These are my laws of life.…
It is often said the hardest thing to do in sports is hit a baseball. Hitting a round ball with a round bat is nearly impossible. How do hitters do it? Hitting is much more complex than making contact between the ball and the bat. Hitting is fundamental. One needs excellent hand-eye coordination. How does one hit a baseball?…
Are all neat people lazy, wasteful, insensitive, and less moral than sloppy people? Are all men more interested in sports while women focus their time on housework and cleaning? The answer to both of these questions is no. These questions bring up generalizations that are dealt with in both of the short essays which are which are as follows: “Neat People vs. Sloppy People” by Suzanne Britt, and “Batting Clean-up and Striking Out” by Dave Barry. Suzanne Britt describes the generalized behavior and mindset of neat and sloppy people, which is not a popular stereotype heard in everyday life. On the contrary, Dave Barry describes a stereotype that is absolutely heard in everyday life. It involves the ideal that women are not interested in sports…
For me, the field of Mathematics represents that opportunity. As I grew up, I realized that most people have a phobia when it comes to mathematics. However, I always found manipulating numbers fascinating.…
In the sport of baseball,. an above average player is seen when their batting average is above .300, in other words, getting a hit 3 out of every 10 at-bats. Above is considered a great player, and below is a below-average player. The same can be said in school as in the sport of baseball. A majority will be considered average, but you have the select few that fall on either side of the spectrum, almost as a bell curve. I am lucky enough to be on the right side, as an above average person in all facets I face, of which I owe a substantial amount of this to my first and greatest love, baseball. My journey through baseball has gone an unconventional route, but I too have witnessed my own downfall within the sport, but I was able to rebound off of a failure into personal triumph. It is detrimental to every aspiring college student that he or she is able to stare failure in the eye, and not accept failure for themselves. My time on the baseball field culminated in my expert ability to rebound through failure in multiple aspects of my life.…
Many careers involve the knowledge and use of algebra. In business fields such as banking, financial planning, business operations and accounting heavily rely on the knowledge of algebra. These types of professions use algebraic equations to determine things such as interest rates, loans, payments, and the value of safety accounts. Fitness coaches are another profession that uses algebra in the day to day process. “As noted by the American Council for Exercise, algebraic…
One of the biggest misconceptions heard about the game of baseball is that it is practically dead. A lot of people in America will assume this because of the downward trend in TV ratings or because kids aren’t being hooked to the game as they once were. One of the things that these people don’t understand is that TV has changed drastically from what it once was. Nowadays every single baseball game can be seen on TV because of the variety of channels available and because of the different streaming options available to fans. When baseball was first broadcasted on TV it was nothing like it is today and there would usually be one or two games per week. The reason the ratings have gone down is because of supply and demand, since there is so much…
In the aftermath of the previous year’s I realized that if I put my mind and effort in something I can do it. Math was a subject that I thought was going to always bring me down. But since my love for sports is greater I knew I had work I had to do, and now I actually love math. When given the chance I watch math video on YouTube. I have a favorite YouTuber names Vsause. His videos contain a mixture of science, math, and physiology. One particular video that is my favorite is when he is describing how humans have sent out many messages out in space that gives out a descriptions of who and what we are and things that are popular in our society at the time; as well as the coordinates to our location. It’s so interesting how math has a major part in life and in everything we do. When in geometry class I thought to myself “How is this going to help me in the future?” But later on, when reading the history of math, geometry is actually useful. We use if for many things like architectural designing, and in computer…
