“Hard times don’t create heroes. It is during the hard times when the ‘hero’ within us is revealed” Bob Riley. Odysseus is an epic hero during hard times he always finds a way out of trouble. He uses many epic hero traits including leadership, superhuman strength, and wisdom. First of all odysseus has many epic hero traits but, one of his more important ones are leardership. When they are on the land of the lotus eaters the locals offer them lotus. When the crew became forgetful of there homeland odysseus states “all hands aboard; come, clear the beach and no one taste the lotus,or you may lose your hope for home.”(Homer 1049). this is why i think odysseus is a leader. In addition odysseus also had superhuman strength.which
means he is stronger than any human. Odysseus shows great strength when none of the suitors can string the bow till odysseus “draws between his thumb and forefinger a sweet new string upon a peg: odysseus in one motion strung the bow.” (Homer 1104) which means in one motion he strung the bow effortlessly. This is why i think odysseus is strong. Furthermore another one of odysseus's epic hero traits are wisdom. Without this epic hero trait i doubt odysseus would have ever made it home. Odysseus uses this epic hero trait many times in his story. One time he uses it is when odysseus tells the cyclops,” my name is nohbdy: mother, father, and friends. Everyone calls me nohbdy.” which at the time made no sense until odysseus stabs the cyclops in the eye and the cyclops yells out,“nohbdy, nohbdy’s tricked me, nohbdy’s ruined me.” (homer 1057) to his neighbors. So his neighbors think nobody's hurt him and they leave.this is why i think odysseus is wise.
Finally the leadership, strength, and wisdom that odysseus has can all be used in real world these are three important traits to have in life many people have at least one of these traits. this is why i think odysseus is an epic hero because of odysseus has all three traits leadership, superhuman strength, and wisdom and this is why i think odysseus is an epic hero.
