He is very cutting in his answers. While Varinka tells him the nicest things about him with such an admiration and joy, he destroys instantly her moment with a, not grotesque but ridiculous statement. For example, when she tells him how tight and perfect he dresses to her, his response is: “You speak of me as if a were your pet” or in another instance when she says, “I love you”, his response is “is convenient we met” This to a normal person would make him annoyed, but Varinka seems to be “crazy” in love with …show more content…
One can imagine that disagreement caused by this action is what reflects how different they are in their thinking. While she is so happy of being capable and brave of riding the bicycle, his response is “a woman can be arrested for riding a bicycle. That is not progressive, it is a premeditated revolutionary act” He gets even more upset when she tells him that some of his students saw her riding it that he gets to look for the bicycle to return it as fast as possible to his brother.
