The Merger Of Human Technology With Human Intelligence Case Study
Statement of Purpose________________________________________
As Ray Kurzweil describes in his book “The Singularity is Near”, we are on the verge of entering into ‘Epoch 5’ – The Merger of Human Technology with Human Intelligence. Imagine a day when it will be possible to scan the brain from the inside using nanobots! In the decades ahead, I foresee computer science being used to create new breakthroughs in all realms of science and technology. For instance, using advanced software for mining vast amounts of data being collected today, hidden trends and patterns can emerge. Such applications of machine learning can help chemists, biologists, and economists solve many difficult problems. I feel excited about the idea of merging technology with

A college project that fueled my interest in analytics was developing a ‘Stock Market Analyzer’. I scraped the historical data of the stock market from Yahoo! Finance, and programmed an algorithm that helped in analysis and prediction of share prices. In my junior year, I researched on 'Graph Databases'. We compared the processing time of a NoSQL graph database, called Neo4j, with MySQL on a connected dataset. Since then, I have been engrossed in the emerging NoSQL technology which is used for effective storage and retrieval of petabytes of …show more content…
In a densely populated country like India, there are over 7 million medication errors recorded every year causing massive damages to the entire healthcare system, ranging from a wrong pill to a wrong amputation. An intelligent information system that can store, prescribe, and recommend the correct medicines for individuals based on their records (like allergy to certain medicines, etc.) would tremendously help millions of people. However, when I initiated research on the application, I realized that I was short on resources and needed to gain more experience and exposure. I want to make sure that the company I am building is around for the long term. To achieve my goal, I decided to pursue a master’s

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the branch of computer science, which concentrates on the intelligence of machines, and involves applying the principles of reasoning, knowledge planning, learning, communication, perception, and controlling objects to emulate the human brain. The most recognizable AI application is robotics from Hollywood cinema, and includes films such as; I Robot, Transformers, Wall-e, WarGames, A.I., The Terminator, Robocop, Iron Man, and Star Wars to name a few, which is fictional not an actual representation of AI. Robotics applications is only one of three aspects of AI, which also includes Cognitive Science applications, and Natural Interface applications, however, the area businesses are finding the most useful is the Cognitive Science applications (Murugavel, 2014).…

As a novice programmer and a participant in Lego robotics I find the controversy surrounding artificial intelligence very intriguing. Programmers, computer scientists, and researchers alike have debated about the possibility of artificial intelligence becoming more intelligent than humans. Because I do have some knowledge of how computers work I can see why this topic is sparking so much interest. The thought of something that we created having the potential to surpass us is riveting. It’s impossible to fathom the idea that humans may lose their spot as the alphas of the world. In this paper I will break down the arguments surrounding this topic by putting them into simpler terms and prove why one side may be superior to the other.…

Considering the questions raised about the advancement of humanity through technology, two opposing positions are generally discussed. One group accepts the path of human evolution and transformation, and Ray Kurzweil was one of them. He believed that one day in the future we will reach the point of “Singularity” defined as “a future period during which the pace of technological change will be…

It has been twenty-two years since my failure, and I have matured and learned how to accept responsibilities and not to take great and generous opportunities, like the Federal Student Aid and many others, for granted. I have since been experiencing very difficult challenges in life, especially job security. Just recently, I was fortunate enough to convince the Pohnpei Community Health Center’s board of directors that I would implement and support an Electronic Health Record System to streamline the center’s workflows and to utilize a safe and secure health data repository in order to efficiently and securely cater to the community. With this another great opportunity, it is pertinent that I acquire the knowledge and skills to the fullest. So…

NoSQL is a type of datastore; it's a way of storing and retrieving data quickly, much like a relational database except it isn't based on the mathematical relationship between tables as a traditional relational database does. NoSQL datastores can be much faster than relational databases but generally lack the robustness that those provide for the speed. The growth of ultra large websites like Facebook and Google has lead to the development of NoSQl as a way of breaking through the speed constraints that relational databases provide. Most work on storing and fetching Key-Values, though some e.g. redis, store large quantities of data entities (called documents) in XML or JSON format.…

In 1941 an invention revolutionized every aspect of the storage and processing of information. This ingenious machine was the electronic computer and it was developed in both the US and Germany. Many believed that the technology was finally available to simulate intelligent behavior. Over the next four decades, and countless obstacles, Artificial Intelligence was able to expand from a few dozen researchers to thousands of engineers and specialists; and from simple programs that were able to play a game of checkers to astonishing systems that…

Most of the businesses are highly dependent on their database and I find the new technologies which help in storing huge quantities of data, mining it and intelligently sorting and prioritizing data and using it for a competitive advantage quite fascinating. How such huge quantities of data so crucial to us can be stored in a single pen drive or a hard disk, how you can remotely access your data through cloud, all such great advancements makes me more of a fanatic for storage. In my third year I studied about Database Managements Systems which added to my knowledge about data and then in the final year I took Information Storage and Management as my elective subject in which I got thorough knowledge about different storage networks and storage systems and learnt how to design a storage system using appropriate network, intermediate devices, storage arrays and protocols keeping in mind the cost, availability and performance of the system. I also studied the storage system of my college and some other storage systems of EMC. I am currently learning about Data Warehousing and Mining and have also taken up Cloud Computing as the latest elective which will further strengthen my knowledge about…
