The Paideia Philosophy
The Paideia Philosophy teaches students to prosper as a learner, be strong leaders, give back to their community and to build their character. I have attended schools that administer this philosophy since the fourth grade. Ultimately, I have grown so much as a learner. I started at the Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts which challenged me so much as a student.
Throughout my years going to a Paideia school, I have learned to challenge myself everyday and work hard to achieve academic success. Instead of taking the easy route, I’ve chosen classes like Calculus and Anatomy which I believe will challenge my academic capabilities. By studying diligently and persevering, I have achieved numerous goals. I don’t let my failures define who I am and I learn from my mistakes.

Devoting my time towards serving my community makes me feel better. Volunteering at my church and McKamey Animal Shelter and making a difference in my community has helped shape who I am and made me a better person.
Expressing what I feel is important to me plays into my character. During seminars and class discussions, I voice my opinions because I am a firm believer in doing so. Honesty, perseverance and compassion define me as a person. As a result, these characteristics have helped me succeed in my academic career.
I portray my leadership in many different settings such as work, and at home. At work, I decide what’s best for my coworkers and for my customers. I obtained these leadership skills as a result of being an older sister. I help my younger sisters make decisions that affect their everyday life. I provide an example that they look up to through their school years.
I believe that I exemplify the characteristics of a Paideia student because of who I am as a person. I hope I am inducted so that I can further strengthen my leadership skills and be able to assist the people surrounding me more

Throughout my school career, obtaining good grades has always been a value my parents expected of me and therefore also have been a value I’ve held for myself. Getting the best out of my education is a goal I set for myself every school day to ensure that I’ll have a bright future. Also taking rigorous AP and CCP courses are an essential part of my academics. Challenging classes such as the AP and CCP courses enabled to reach my potential and push the limits of my education. These classes have not only helped me prepare for college this coming fall, but they have also allowed me to be ahead of my peers by getting some college credits out of the way before graduating high…

I wasn’t born a leader. No tragic event made me open my eyes to become a leader. In actuality, my mother enrolled me into an all-female women’s empowerment leadership program without my consent. I was not insecure, my grades were superb; I was however, an active follower of the most uninfluential group of friends every parent dreads. Being a follower instead of a leader is a very childlike trait. It takes an adult, woman or man, to step up and take charge in doing what they know is best for themselves and those who follow. When I’m not being a quirky goofball Emma Jean Bouie, I’m being sophisticated, empowered woman little miss Nadia Moffet. Ever since I met Nadia Moffet, C.E.O of The Queens Foundation and Miss North Carolina 2010, she has instilled something spiritually and mentally inside of me that has helped shape the young leader I am today. From the age of 13, I was no longer just Emma Jean Bouie, I slowly became, “a beautiful, powerful and strong beyond measure woman.’…

The four pillars of National Honors Society, scholarship, service, leadership, and character, have paved a path for me as a student and as a person. Scholarship has taught me to strive to be the best student I can be. I use scholarship to keep up with my school work and never give up when a class is hard. I always strive for the best grade I can get and I will stop at nothing until I reach my goal. I will continue to use scholarship as I go to college and pursue my dream as a pediatric dentist. I will study, I will learn, and I will never give up no matter what happens along the way. I use service when I volunteered to help my local private school. I was never asked to do so, but I felt as if I was giving back to a school that had done so much…

I volunteer in my community whenever I get the opportunity. For example, I helped students get to school safely and I helped out around the school. I volunteered at the public library to help younger children. I now see it is hard work to get children focused and help them not make a big mess, but I enjoyed helping them in any way I can. Volunteering at the public library also taught me about patience. Not everything went exactly how I planned it out, but at the end it still worked out. My time at the library also taught me about effort.…

Every individual have rights and for them to have the best care they should be able to practice their rights as long as it doesn’t affect others around them or put themselves in danger. To have a supportive relationship with someone you would have to respect and value them and allow them to exercise their rights. One of the key principles in caring for a people is to develop a supportive relationship by helping and enabling them, this is done by empowering. Empowering clients means that a carer should give their clients choices when caring for them. For example, Mrs Martin is Muslim and she doesn’t eat pork but most of the other clients’ enjoys eating pork, so whenever pork is being prepared in the home for the other clients to eat the carer always ensure that Mrs Martin is given a choice about what she would like to eat. Giving clients choices will give them the sense of dignity and independence this will encourage them to take control over their own life and at the same time carer would be empowering their clients. This therefore means that carer is respecting clients’ right in a supportive relationship.…

Having the opportunity to make new, diverse friends around the community impacted me as a person. The people I met not only included the people I served, but also included the people I worked alongside of me in the food pantry. Since I volunteered at the same day and time every week, I was able to become familiar with many new people. In fact, many of these people were even able to connect to my life. One day I had a conversation with a man I volunteered with numerous times whose name was Steve.…

Throughout my high school years, I maintained various leadership roles. The first of which was serving as a section leader in the marching band for three years. As a section leader, I was the example of how the section should act, present, and conduct them. I was also the captain of the golf and tennis teams, first leading by examples through my actions and then through my playing skills. At my home church, I am the Youth Director providing an example of how to live as a young Christian despite the temptation of peer pressure. While here at JMU, I am currently serving as a mentor at the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Boys and Girls Club to disadvantaged to youth. Just furthering my education beyond high school is the primary and first example of leadership. The kids at the club can look to me and see that I was once just like them but I’ve pushed through and maybe they can…
