The Positive Side of Social Media The use of social media is very positive. Millions of people use social media. There are a lot of different social media websites. The most common ones are Facebook and Twitter. People used to use Myspace until the other two came along. I love to use social media. I am not a very talkative person therefore social media is even better for me to use. “Technology makes it easy to communicate when we wish and to disengage at will,” writes Sherry Turkle (Turkle, 236). The introduction of new technology makes communicating through social media even better. Tablets and cell phones have apps for social media sites. There are gaming consoles that allow you to communicate with other gamers that are online. I use social media to connect with family and friends. I am from NJ and most of the aforementioned are back in NJ. I do not have a cell phone to be able to call anyone. I find that I say so much more when I use social media. I am able to see photos of my cousins, nieces and nephews. In turn, they can see pictures of my three children and myself. I don’t put up to many pictures. My mom even uses social media to contact me sometimes. I have used Skype to talk to my cousin when he deployed to Afghanistan. The fact that I do not have a job hinders me from going back home to visit. I love it when I can see my family with the use of Skype or Tango. It is free to use both of those sites. I give the person I make the video call to my full attention. I don’t do anything else during the duration of the video call. It especially comes in handy for the holidays. I get homesick and don’t have the money to go home. I get to see the whole family using Skype or Tango. I do not see any harm in using social media. Some people just prefer to communicate that way. I have been able to communicate with people I have not seen in years. I have my privacy settings set so that only my friends can view my profile. There are some people who use it in
