Thesis: Animal testing is an unnecessary measure that involves inhumane procedures, costly tests, wasteful outcomes, and alternative methods.
Animal testing is a widely known method that has been used in science ever since 500 B.C, but over the years technological alternatives have been made. Many people assume that animal testing is the only ethical and precise method of testing drugs, cosmetics, and foods, but in reality animal testing is useless. There have been handfuls of incidents where drugs were first tested on animals and then used on humans but resulted dangerous. This is due to the extreme differences among humans and animals that give inaccurate results. Ex-National Cancer Institute Director, Dr. Richard Klausner himself …show more content…
Although it might seem barbaric to use humans for testing, most of the time the humans used in testing are either dead or ill. In fact most of the people that volunteer for testing who are ill, are willing to volunteer in order to find cures for their illness. There are also tests where healthy humans wholeheartedly agree to be used in testing. These people are subjected to special methods of testing that are non harmful and non hazardous. One of the methods used on human volunteers to secure their safety is a term known as “microdosing” which is basically giving the volunteer a small dosage of the drug being tested. The researchers are then able to analyze how the drugs affect the human body through technology that monitors the insides of the human subject. The effect of microdosing on human volunteers is an unharmful and ethical way of testing drugs while not killing or damaging hundreds of …show more content…
Not only are the alternative methods more accurate but they demand less time than what animal testing needs. According to the discoveries of The Humane Society International, “Some animal tests take months or years to conduct and analyze...4-5 years, in the case of rodent cancer studies......In contrast, computer modeling techniques are lightning-fast ”(Humane society #13). The Humane Society International’s point is that the use of animal testing is much more time consuming than the technology provided now. Therefore, not only is the technology more efficient and accurate at producing results but it is also faster than testing on animals. This is due to how time consuming it is to analyze and obtain results from the animals being
