Now days everyone wants to be accepted or fit in with the most popular. This increases pressure on parents to visualize having the perfect baby to feel accepted. Genetic modification is becoming a heated debate over protecting a newborn from genetic diseases to manipulating genes for personal preferences. Many agree with the notion of curing cancer or dyslexia through gene manipulation. However, there are a lot of debates on changing the DNA sequence for personal dislikes such as personality characteristics and intelligent statuses. Genetic modification should not be used to satisfy the desires of parents unless it is life threatening to the unborn child. Decisions for manipulating a child’s genes to make them into somebody else without them having the capabilities at this point to decide for themselves is unethical.
Preventing pain and suffering in new offspring’s will give future human beings advantages towards avoiding life complications and provide them with a good overall life span. Therefore further study of this idea should be considered.
