The Pros And Cons Of The Second Amendment
The dark side of the Second Amendment: More deadly than safe.
Each year there are around 30,000 gun related deaths in the US. The US civilians are at a large. A large amount of people have been murdered and this has to change. The 2nd amendment was originally used for self defense against government oppression, but now self defense is one of the least used uses of a gun. On top of that, anyone could walk into a gun show without identification and buy a gun. The second amendment may have kept the US citizens safe in the 1700’s and 1800’s, but now it is outdated. The US needs to pass an amendment that limits the second amendment in order to improve gun safety in the US.

In the late 1700’s and early 1800’s, the firearms you would have had to protect your family would be the same weapons you would use for a militia. Imagine you are in the late 1700’s and someone comes into your home and starts threatening to shoot your wife with a single shot Harpers Ferry musket. You come out with your very own musket, as you are in a militia, he runs away and you fire off a single shot before you have to reload and he disappears. Now imagine that scenario today, he has an automatic machine gun and when you come in the room without a gun he blows you and your wife's brain out before you even process what is happening. Since everyone can have a gun, you may be thinking why do you not have a gun in this scenario. It is because you are not thinking about joining a militia or have any reason to own a gun, as only around 1,000 people have been killed by the police this year while around 30,000 murders are attributed to firearms. The second amendment is more dangerous than useful then it was in the early days of the USA, so we need to alter the amendment so it is more
