The Scent of Green Papaya
Australian Public Service Announcements
Australia is a wonderful country. They have got nice hot whether all the time, plenty of venomous and dangerous animals to look out for, and some pretty cute ones too, like koalas and kangaroos. As a matter of fact my dad wanted us to move there for a long time. I’m even tempted to go one day all because of this ad they put out warning kids to stay in school. Its a pretty typical thing for kids to do, skip school and go have fun in the sun on nice days. Although its not a smart thing to do unless your parents really don’t care where you go or what you do.
Watching this ad it almost feels like I could be right there. The senses it appeals to for me are sight, touch, smell and taste. I also really like the song playing in the background. However it doesn’t really give me a sense of place throughout the commercial. So other than to make it seem like an average commercial full of hipster things, its pretty pointless.

As far as touch goes I feel it does a really good job. Stuck here in my freezing cold room in the middle of winter watching this seems to warm me up just a tad. This ad makes me feel really nostalgic and wish it were summer once more. Cool water bringing temporary relief from the heat. sand between my toes. The commercial does a really good job establishing that with the setting. Now when it comes to scent they chose a place nearly everyone knows, saltwater. It appeals to me more because I know what eucalyptus smells like and I can imagine the warm scent of it intermingling with the salty ocean breeze. The taste it brings into my mind is salt, much like the scent the taste of the beach is very distinct. The kids in the commercial all have drinks of some sort and i’m really hoping its something innocent like cream soda. Which is the taste this particular commercial incites. The commercials cast is a set of particularly attractive teens. Probably the popular kids. Hey at least their deaths give the nerdier

The producers of this commercial knew its target audience and went after it. It had a strong attention getter. Right from the beginning this commercial had my attention and maintained it throughout the entirety of the advertisement. It had strong appeals to pathos, ethos, and logos. This commercial worked for me, but for others I can see how this commercial came up short in getting their attention. For example, my views towards the music choice, the girl, and scenery corresponded well with what I wanted to see, but if you asked my mother about the commercial I’m sure there would be a completely different reaction to the commercial. In fact when I was watching the commercial in class in preparation for writing this analysis the girl who sits behind me watched the commercial over my shoulder and said that she thought the commercial was “ stupid”. It wasn’t until this moment that I realized the importance of pathos, ethos, and logos and how different each person’s appeals truly…

While this is more of a humorous commercial; that is what engages viewers to take interest in the ad. Viewers are also engaged because of Isaiah Mustafa being so appealing. He is a handsome, funny, and confident man, and his voice is very deep. He almost reminds me of a male sex symbol. In the very beginning moments of this ad, he is showing off his abs while the rest of his body is wrapped in a towel. Isaiah Mustafa is a very physical fit man and that is what attracts the women to watch the…

The ad starts out by creating a serious mood by using a gray, cloudy, and cold scenery. The lights in the bar are dimmed. There is rain and snow in the commercial which are known to set thoughtful, dour, and sometimes sad moods. The commercial used these details to have the audience want to keep watching to see what happens next, therefor it keeps them from skipping the ad. In the article of Making Sense of Ads stated that advertising researchers devote large sums to testing consumers’ responses…

The commercial follows a man, that slowly amassed a following of those that need help. The way I view the commercial, is the man isn’t being followed by an actual group of people but is being haunted by the thoughts of those in need. The commercial relies heavily on pathos, ethos, and logos; the use of melancholy music sets the tone of the whole commercial. Putting all this together, allows the viewer to realize what a difference one person can make if they see someone in need of help. This commercial was made to show the various issues in the world.…

    Appeals Activity Analysis

I would say that this commercial was made for a sympathetic audience. Watching it for “Chevy Guys” they will feel for their Chevy’s and probably feel that they are just like the father in the commercial. They would do anything to keep their Chevy running and in the family. This commercial absolutely uses pathos appeal to speak to its audience. When the father looks at a picture of him, his dad and the truck he thinks of all the memories made with this truck and then thinks of all the memories he will make with this truck and his own son. This is a very heartfelt moment and you would be considered soulless if this moment did not tug on your heart strings. To conclude this first part of my Appeals Activity I would say this commercial’s argument is very persuasive. The commercial really tugs at your heart and ties in the sentimental value that we all have with something in our life. This commercial will really speak to true “Chevy Guys” that can recall all of the memories they have with their own Chevy. In the end, I found this to be one of the better commercials I have seen in awhile and would not change much as I felt the message and way it was delivered really hits…

They made two adverts, one was before its release, and another one after it .I think they made a clear message because the content of the poster is clear and straight to the point. The first one says “Greatness Awaits”. The advert was very good, it has a short and very powerful meaning. The second one says “This is for the Players”; I think this one is quite individual and it brings an impression that is just for a certain group of people. I think the second one could be improved in a way that every person would like it, even if they don’t know how to use it, to inspire people to have it, such as “Where the Connected world is” or “The Greatness of the Entertainment”. Apart from that, the image in the advertisement…

This advertisement is trying to convince its viewers that if you buy the foods they are selling, you can have a dramatic loss in weight. The ad shows a before and after picture comparing the two and how much skinnier she is now just because of eating these foods. Also, it shows a text of how much weight she has lost, and article of how it changed her life, a quote in big bold letters, samples of the food and at the bottom, and it shows the name of the product that is in big bold letters so it gets every ones attention. The emotional appeal I think this one has is the need for attention because of the face that you want to lose all this weight to look good for other people and is not happy with the way your body is already. In my opinion, this does manipulate the public dramatically because everyone wants that great look you can get by slimming down easy.…

    Old Spice

Old Spice is the creator of the ad. I do not perceive him/her as credible for the advertisement. It would be hard to believe that if I smelled like Isaiah Mustafa, AKA “the Old Spice Man”, I would be instantly able to do the things that he does in the commercial such as: for example, log rolling, walking on water, or jumping a waterfall into a hot tub, and coming out riding a motorcycle (just to name a few). The ad does not offer reasonable grounds for anything that is mentioned such as if your man smelled like him he could bake a gourmet cake in such a “dream home” he built with his own bare hands. He is making the audience believe that “’anything is possible” if you smell like him, like suddenly appearing on a rolling log from a dock on the beach, and then walking across water to a kitchen. The ad is trying to persuade you into buying the Old Spice product, by insinuating you will instantly become the “man of her dreams”. Though the commercial was funny, the reason why I think it’s not credible is because it is so obvious and unrealistic.…

This advertisement is incredibly persuasive due to the extended use of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. The goal of the advertisement is to show you exactly what could happen when distracted driving. From the very beginning of the advertisement to the little boys’ sneaker lying in the road, we are shown the reality of the situation and our emotions are heightened. The advertisement captures our attention and keeps us holding on to the very end. It forces us to think about our actions as well as others actions around us. We are left very wretched and distraught after watching the entire…

Personally I love this commercial. It makes me laugh every time that I watch it. Especially when Jason comments in the background to his girlfriend, “how about lavender?” and Jim responds with a straight faced, “how about not.” That part gets a laugh out of me every time that I see it. I’m sure that a lot of guys can relate to this commercial, just as I can. Having to go do something with a significant other rendering us incapable of watching the big game or just doing something that we want to do in general, I know it happens. I feel bad for the character Jason in the ad; I can feel his pain, making me know that the commercial uses pathos well. Causing others to feel badly for Jason is one of the main strategies for this ad. I know this commercial makes me want to have a FLO TV for when these moments arise, as I’m sure other guys would love to have one to combat these situations as well. This commercial may be interpreted entirely different from the other side of the sex. I don’t know if I’m the only male to think this, but I believe that women not only enjoy going out shopping with their significant others, but also take some kind of sick satisfaction from knowing that they are…
