The Terrible Snow Day
The Terrible Snow Day Growing up in small town Wisner, Nebraska could be quite entertaining. I grew up in Wisner with my mom, dad, brother, and sister. My sister and I were very close in age which turned out perfect because we always had someone to play with at all times. We were always out finding something new to entertain us, sometimes it was good others were bad. We always thought the best days were snow days. You could do a lot of different things you could not do year round. Every snow day was good except this one; this one was a disaster. “Girls it’s time to get up for school,” Mom yells up the stairs. This was the last words we wanted to hear today. How could this be it was snowing when we went to bed last night we thought to ourselves. Angrily we trudged out of bed and down the stairs only to sit next to the phone and wait for the call saying we had a snow day since there was quite a bit of snow on the ground. Finally after what seemed like an hour the call came. This was about to be the most epic snow day ever. Eight o’clock rolled around and it was now time for Mom to go take Jack to daycare and then head off to work. Oh boy we thought to ourselves, this is what we have been waiting for all year. A lot of snow on the ground and no mom and dad, this day couldn’t get any better than this.
Once everyone was gone so Addy and I headed for the backyard. We did our normal routine that we had every year which consisted of building a fort, having a snow ball fight, and then sledding down the hill. This day was turning out to be another perfect snow day ever, that was until we attempted to climb back up the hill after sledding. We soon found out there was some ice under the snow making it very difficult to climb back up the hill. We continued trying to climb this hill for about an hour, but it seemed like much more time than that. After we realized we weren’t going to make it up the hill we thought to ourselves “oh no, we are going to die out here mom

As I crossed the road with my dog Henry, I could feel the frigid winter breeze on my face. Then I felt a snowflake land on my nose like a plane landing after a long flight. I didn’t like this cold weather at all but I had heard many children around me cheering and laughing. I heard things like “woohoo it is snowing” and things like “oww don't throw snowballs at my face”. That last one made me chuckle a little bit when I had heard it. Then I heard someone yell my name, which is Brian by the way. So I turned around and felt a big snowball hit my back.…

It is very snowy outside, and while I admire the snow, we don’t have thick enough clothes to keep us warm. February 1914 Today was cold, so I stayed inside most of the day, except for going to Roger’s Grocery. We didn’t get much, but I did buy this scrapbook and a reading book. As soon as I got home, I began to paste family pictures into my scrapbook. I wonder if they’ll be school tomorrow with all this snow.…

Growing up in rural Kansas was boring. Especially since I grew up in the seventies. There were no cell phones or game systems to occupy my time. My family had an old black and white television set. I loved to watch The Price is Right in the days before Bob Barker’s hair turned white. After the show was over, the only way to kill time was to play outside and wander down to the creek that ran parallel to our property. There was a secret trail buried in the wall of trees that lined our two acre yard. My brother and I would slide down the trail, landing on the dirt banks like explorers on a mission. Sometimes we would hunt for crawdads under rocks. Other times we would take our poles and fish. We never went into the water after the time I got bit by a gar.…

I waited out in the cold and snow for what seemed like forever. I eventually saw our car pull up to the park. I saw my dad and my brother get out of the car and hurry towards me. When they got to me, my dad picked me up and carried me to the car. We got in and he drove me home. Then he helped me get out of the car. The pain was so bad I had to hop to the door. Once inside our house, I hopped over to the couch, and laid down.…

Emma’s day began like any other. She woke up in her college dorm room at The George Washington University covered in her down comforter and sheets, sunken into her tempurpedic mattress topper. Getting out of her warm bed and into the crisp cold air of the open dorm room air was tough. Winter in D.C. was turning out to be colder than she expected. She breathed in the fresh air before her, and walked to her Brita water filter to get herself a glass of water. While drinking the crystal clear water, Emma scrolled through her instagram feed and saw a picture that reminded her of her mom. She proceeded to give her mom a call. After she hung up the phone, Emma went to the bathroom and washed her hands, brushed her teeth, and used her favorite mouthwash.…

This trip was extra-entertaining because I went dog sledding with the huskies. I remember the cold day when snow was falling from the sky, piling up on the ground. My parents and I went to a snow-covered mountain at Skagway. We went there by helicopter. The dog-sledding part was so entertaining. At first I held on to the handles steadily, but soon I became bored. I stuck my feet into the snow. I didn’t notice it when the musher speeded up the sled. I fell on my belly. I held on to the handles with my hand and screamed. It was an enjoyable experience even though I got myself totally wet.…
