grades are very bad, but then he meets Lemon Brown then he showed Greg his treasure. Kino and Greg both begin their stories with a sense of what is important in life and as the stories continue, these ideas about what is important change. In the novel, The Pearl, the main characters Kino, Changes his sense of what is important in life due to his finding of “the pearl of the world”. In the beginning of the novel, Kino seems satisfied and content with his simple life and love for his wife Juana and baby Coyotito. One quote that shows his satisfaction with his life is “ There is no need for speech if it is only a habit anyway. Kino sighed with satisfaction, and that was conversation”(Steinbeck p. 4). This quote says Kino enjoyed the mornings when his wife was making breakfast, or caring for their baby, and listening to the song of the family without having to speak. Furthermore, Kino is satisfied with his life. In the novel near the mid end it is said “A thousand pesos was not to be thrown away. It was comparative wealth to a man who was not wealthy. And suppose Kino took a thousand pesos. Only yesterday he had nothing” (Steinbeck p. 50). This quote shows that After finding the pearl Kino becomes greedy, violent, and determined. To sum it up Kino starts loving, and caring, then he becomes greedy, then back loving, and caring. In conclusion throughout the story Kino changes from loving, and caring to greedy, and violent, back to caring, and loving.
In the short story, The Treasure of Lemon Brown, one of the main character called Greg Changes his sense of what is important in life due to his meeting with Lemon Brown.
In the beginning of the short story, Greg wants to play basketball but his dad won’t let him because he is failing math.In the beginning of the short story, it is said “It wasn’t often the Scorpions took on new players..., and this was a chance of a lifetime for Greg… Report cards was due in a week... But the principal had ended the suspense early when she sent that letter saying ‘Greg would probably fail math if he didn’t spend time studying’”(Myres, 4). This quote says that Greg is caring more about basketball than his grades. Because of this Greg’s dad gives him a lecture. Then he goes outside to see if someone was out there while it was raining instead of going back because he did not want another lecture by his dad he runs to an abandon building where he met lemon brown. In the mid end after being shown Lemon Brown’s treasure Greg cares more about his grades and what his dad has to say. It is said “... greg thought of the lecture he knew his father would give him, and smiled”(Myres, 15). given this point explains that after Lemon brown’s treasure’s backstory about how Brown gave it to his son who was in the army to fight a war when he was killed they sent back all his stuff. Showing that he kept it tells him that he cared and loved it, then when Greg went back home he cared about his dad. I conclusion
