Was the actors’ acting extraordinary or was it mediocre? The actors’ acting skills were mediocre. My favorite actor was Amber Riley, Addaperle. Amber Riley was my favorite actor, because she stood out the most and how she played the role of the good witch of the north. Her voice was strong,
gorgeous, and affectionate. Her energy for role was at the threshold. Her character’s personality was believable. I didn’t have a least favorite character. Overall, she did better than the other characters, but they all cooperated well together and gave a tremendous amount of energy. The group of performers as a whole did phenomenal.
The characters’ costumes and makeup were astonishing. My favorite actors’ costumes and makeup were the Wicked Witch of the West and Addaperle. The colors for those witches stood out for the role. Addaperle’s makeup and costume were stylish, bright, and popping, which was based on her unimpeachable role. The Wicked Witch of the West’s makeup and costume went with her character, which was a dark and devilish look. These design elements enhanced the performance by giving the audience a visual of how the character would look. However, all of the characters’ costumes and makeup were marvelous.
The lighting, scenic design, sound effects, and props were decent, but they were major elements that enhanced the performance. The lighting focused on the main parts that was happening in the play. Every time the scene changed the lighting changed to fit the mood of the actors. The scenes match the theme of the play. The first scene looked like it was tricky trying to perfect the tornado and blowing grass. Hand-made props wasn’t used as much as the technology was. The sound effects, sound like they were tricky, but they were excellent. Props were also an excellent element in this play. The smoke/fog, when they were in the forest, set the mood of a scary/intense moment for Dorothy and her friends. The house that was on top of the witch Dorothy killed was a prop. Dorothy’s slippers were also a major prop, because it helped her get home. Overall, the lighting, scenic design, sound effects, and props could’ve been better, but they were astonishing.
In my opinion, “The Wiz” was adequate and interesting. Each character played each role wonderful and showed great emotions. The theme of, “The Wiz”, is that your home is where your heart is. It is relevant or today’s audience. Recommending this play to other people would be the best thing, because it teaches a life lesson. The target audience for this play would be families with children ages of 10 to 17. Overall, this play could’ve been better, but it was okay.
