The Worth of Life’s Most Precious Gifts

There is an old expression that states “The best things in life are free,” but, it is simply incorrect. The best things in life are definitely not free. Everything in life comes with a price whether it is happiness, religion, or the love of your life. Each one has worth and takes a lot of work to acquire. Even the three most essential, and mysterious gifts in life require a price, which are peace faith and love. Everything good and worth living for can be categorized under these gifts and without them our world would no longer exist.

Chaos and destruction form a world without happiness. That’s why peace is one of life’s most essential gifts and one that definitely comes with a heavy price. In everyday life, peace is often taken for granted but more often people don’t realize the sacrifices made for our peace. From soldiers overseas to our local police force, people are laying their lives out on the line for the simple benefit of peace. There is also inner peace which frees our mind and allows us to be at ease. Peace brings happiness which the world needs a whole lot more of. Of course, with sacrifice from our heroic soldiers, peace also brings liberty. Liberty is an amazing release from captivity which some of our foreign countries would love to possess but do not, under brutal dictatorships. Peace and liberty are just forms of one of the most amazing things in life and something we all are going to have to appreciate a little more.

Another amazing gift is faith, which has existed for thousands of years and is still one of the many things in life us humans simply can’t explain. Faith also comes with a cost much like any other gift but, it’s much more psychologically linked to a single person and his or her beliefs. By being so personal, faith conveys a strong message and that makes it dangerous. In the past martyrs gave their life for what they believed in and

Freedom is not something that anybody can be given; Freedom is something that people take and people are as free as they want to be. Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, states, "Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one." Basically, Franklin is saying that in any circumstances mankind should not forget about the most important thing in the world - freedom. Freedom is when people have the opportunity to pursue happiness without any barriers. Freedom "gives" happiness because the state of being free is aligned with our true nature. The more you are aligned with your true nature, the more you are well. To simplify this, I would say if we have freedom - we have happiness; if we lose freedom we lose happiness as well. I believe people are only able to value it, as far as they can acknowledge how much it's important to them. I really love and appreciate the opportunity to be happy, that’s why I totally agree with Benjamin…

Conflict is inevitable, and constantly present in life. Whether it’s obvious and right in front of your face or hidden beneath a pile of lies someone will always suffer because of it. Although that being said, without it- would we truly understand the importance of peace? But I believe that these events have caused the most horrific demonstrations of human nature in the act of killing the innocent.…

Liberty is defined as equality, state of being free or having freedom of choice. Sometimes our freedom can be limited because of the government policies. We shouldn’t just follow whatever the government addresses without thinking deeply about our options because sometimes they can lead us to a dead-end road. We should follow our instincts, and essence. Government responsibility to provide our needs and protect our right but sometimes that is not the case, they might direct us to the wrong way “They think that, if that they should resist, the remedy would be worse than the evil. But it’s the fault of the government itself that the remedy is worse than evil” Henry David Thoreau, Civil Disobedience. Liberty gives us the freedom to say no that what make it very important.…

Freedom. What a beautiful word. A gift endowed upon us. Our birthright as an American citizen. Freedom has a very special meaning to me. I know what the price of freedom is. It does not come without a very high cost. Every man, woman, and child who lies their head down each night in peace, does so because some other American, at some time, layed down their life for them. I know this because I lost my dad in Iraq on May 2nd, 2004. He was a Navy Seabee sent there to help rebuild a country. He was killed, along with six of his fellow comrades when their camp was mortared. I will never forget the day that the Naval Chief and Chaplain showed up at my front door. I was only seven at the time but the words about to be uttered would change my life forever. The chief saluted my mom and myself, “The United States of America regrets to inform you…” My mom started to cry. I knew something very bad had happened. I was right.…

In the face of evil a country can not just run away and hide while they watch the evil take over. It is crucial to stand up for your values and freedoms which everyone deserves. War in defense of the values of freedom is justified. On the 40th anniversary of D-day, President Ronald Reagan addressed this saying, “It is better to be here ready to protect the peace than to take blind shelter across the sea...rushing to respond only when freedom is lost.” (2) It is human nature to run away and deny something rather than face the reality that something bad is happening. However in order to keep liberty one must gather the courage to confront the problem. Reagan talked about protecting the peace. This is ironic because war is everything but peace. To get to the peace and liberty war often must be endured. Patrick Henry, an American revolutionary in the fight for independence from Britain made a call for action saying, “give me liberty or give me death.” (2) He also called liberty a holy cause. The value that Henry places on liberty mirrors that of most people. Liberty is worth death for it is not worth living a life that is constantly restrained by government. The liberty that war can bring to society is worth the sacrifice that war demands. By calling liberty a holy cause he shows how all people were created equal people under God and deserve the liberty they fight so hard to attain.…
