I have four friends that I affectionately call “my bridesmaids.” They are great listeners and learners. But they know exactly when enough is enough. These girls know when it is time for them to talk or question my choices. Or even question my state-of-mind. I feel quite sure, for better or worse, nothing will be left off the table with these ladies. And if I ever feel judged, it’s my fault. Everything that we speak to one another is out of love.…
One person who has been very influential in my life is Ms. Toni Gallow. Ms. Gallow is my former physical science teacher. She has inspired me so much. Not only did she teach me regularly in class, she taught me a lot about life. Ms. Gallow was very caring, unlike most teachers at Buckeye Trail. Ms. Gallow always encouraged her students to be the best they could be.…
My grandmother, Elaine Parker, inspires me in a way that few others can. She is inspiring to me is when speaks about dance, I myself am a dancer going on 11 years and she has studied everything from ballet to jazz to tap dance within a span of 20 years. Having someone in your family to push you and move you forward is one thing, but when they have experienced the same things as you…
This award from the KPMG Future Leaders Program will help me achieve my goals not only by supplying me with financial assistance to pay for college but also by allowing me to interact with strong, success women who have experience and insight into a male-driven field. It is seldom that a young woman like myself has the opportunity to further their knowledge of business and communications, and gets to learn that information from strong female leaders. My goals and aspirations stretch far beyond my current skills, and I hope that an award from the KPMG Future Leaders Program will allow me to grow the skills I need to continue on to be a leader to those around me. Going into my freshman year of college with a mentor counseling and teaching me the skill sets required to succeed in my field and to prosper at NYU next year, would be an extraordinary privilege and honor. Woman have always been major contributors to society, despite being shoved down and oppressed on too many occasions and in too many ways. It has always amazed me that despite being oppressed, women have always remained true to their strength and have paved the way for other intellectual, career driven women to prosper in the modern…
Knowing that getting a good education for their kids was their first goal encouraged me to work hard in school. Every minute I have spent at Science Park High I have appreciated because I know it is an enormous privilege to get such an excellent education from many insightful teachers. This will also apply to college. Although my siblings all went to high school, they did not go to college and I saw it break each one of their hearts. This will inevitably push me to reach for nothing but greatness in college, to give it me 100 percent and nothing less no matter how hard it…
Even when I was younger, I have always been honest, trustworthy, and caring. Helping people is something I enjoy doing because it makes me feel like their day is somewhat better. I always allow people to take credit for my hard work, but the last time I did not. In April 2016 I received gold at the state level for my treasurer’s book, where I was recognized at State FFA Convention in front of thousands of other FFA members and their advisors. I am the first to admit I do not always do my best in life, but now I have started to regret it. After graduating high school, college is in the near future of mine.…
The term GMOs stands for genetically modified organism. A genetically modified organism is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. Organisms that have been genetically modified include micro-organisms such as bacteria and yeast, insects, plants, fish, and mammals. GMOs are the source of genetically modified foods, and are also widely used in scientific research and to produce goods other than food. The genetic material (DNA) has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally.…
My family. They have always made huge impacts in my life and pushed me to be the best. My grandfather knows that I want and will be attending college and he is proud of me. He’s always talking to me about college and being encouraging and telling me how proud he is of me and I don’t want to let him down. My grandfather was the only one who attended a college. My grandfather went to NWACC and got his Technical certificate in Safety Management & Environmental science. I want to follow in that path but take it a step further. I want my younger cousins and family friends to look up to me and say they want to be a college graduate like…
My passion to go to college and get a Bachelor degree has been my inspiration since I was little. I am an over-achiever. For example, I maintained a 3.51 GPA throughout high school while volunteering with many organizations. I am also involved with honoring programs at my school. As a junior I won the Best Student Citizen award, which is usually reserved, for the best seniors who exhibit…
It was at my aunt’s birthday party, when I made the decision to attend college. She asked me that day,” Mija, are you going to college?” At first I hesitated, “Si” . Then she told me, “Are you sure because that is exactly what your older sister said and she ended up pregnant.” After hearing those words, I knew for sure I wanted to be the first in my family to attend college. I wanted to prove her what I said I meant it and was going to make it come true.…
1. The Roman Empire played a massive role in history as it spread throughout Europe. Therefore, after its fall, it left behind a lasting legacy, which went on to continue to shape many civilizations, even today. One of the most important legacies of the empire was language.…
I am not sure I could express into words how much I have grown and learned throughout this journey of my graduate degree with Capella. I had been wanting to go into this field for over 10 years, but didn’t have the opportunity to until a couple years ago. As soon as the opportunity came up, I dived right into it. Not knowing too much of the whole process of hours and requirements, all I knew was that I loved helping people and had a passion for it. I have been so fortunate to have the support of my family and more importantly my two beautiful girls. It has been a major sacrifice for them being a single parent going back to school. There has been many times that I rather no count that we couldn’t go do certain things because I had a paper to write. At first it didn’t matter to me to attend graduation, but seeing all the hard work that I have put into doing the best I could and the sacrifices they have made I want them to also join in the celebration because I am proud of them too.…
There are many people in my life that have inspired me, and I look up to many people, one in particular is my grandma. There are so many things that she has gone through many situations good and bad in her life, but she has never let it set her back.…
Just like my mother and older sister, I was told from a young age that I have a lot of potential. They both put themselves into similar situations, they are both struggling to pay off their college debt, even though no degree was received from it. Each of them have their own reasons to why they have fallen into a deep hole financially. Now they are both trying to scrape together any money they can from a near minimum wage job to try to pay off this college debt while also providing for their families.…
Even though I am the first-generation student in college, with the support of my family back home, I am an example to many young girls and boys in my community to work hard for one-day seek admission to a college like Holy Cross or even Harvard. Four years from now I know that I will not be disappointed with the hopes of attaining a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in philosophy. Therefore, I am someone who wants the best for themselves and others while taking every step to be successful in the end.…
