Time Runner

It was a hot summer day in River Creek park when Nate, saw his crush and started to think “this is the day, the day I will finally ask Ashley out! Nate leisurely made my way toward Ashley when Nate’s feet started to slow suddenly it looked like he was walking through a lot of mud. Then Ashley turned around to see him walking like that. Nate stopped and said “hey Ashley could you come over here?” She started to walk and with every step she took it made Nate more sweaty. “Ash-Ash-Ashley would you like to g-g-go on a date?” “I would love to” Ashley said. Nate started to blush
Later that week at school, “Hey guys Ashley said yes!” Nate said “Nice” Tyrone said what nate did not notice when he left the class was Amy crying about how Nate was supposed to love her.
That whole week Nate never saw Amy again. “Way to go jerk can’t you take a hint” someone said.

As Nate was falling he started to move his arms and legs like a awkward chicken trying to fly all of a sudden Nate saw a flash and the next second he was In the river soaking wet looking up to where the bridge was supposed to be. “What, I must be imagining things” Nate thought. Nate then continued to walk to Tyrone’s house. Nate arrived at Tyrone’s house to see nothing was the same “how is this possible?” Nate thought. Nate turned around to see a newspaper boy handing out newspaper so Nate ran up and grabbed one. When Nate looked at the date a look of disbelief ran across his face. “How is this possible, it must be time travel!, It must have something to do with speed” Nate thought as he started to run suddenly a white flash and Nate was back in his time. “Wait, I can fix things between me and Amy now” Nate thought as relief struck him Mate then ran back in time. “This is the time I fix things between me and Amy” Nate thought, Nate looked at Ashley then Amy “it's worth it” he thought and walked

He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Jose Carlos was administered an 11th grade level passage, “The Time Machine” by H.G. Wells, to read aloud in English. It was apparent this passage is still advanced for his language level of fluency. He mispronounced many words such as: vague, inkling, Filby, Hastings, anachronisms, Plato, extravagant, theories, interest, communistic, and verifications. However, the student had no prior exposure to the proper names and other high tier vocabulary words. Jose Carlos conducted many pauses to sound out words and repeated phrases until they were articulated correctly. Although the passage was complex, he showed no level of frustration. Although there were many errors, he read at an acceptable rate. It was determined that his inaccuracies were based…

The Time Sweepers is a short story written by Canadian author Ursula-Wills Jones. The story focuses on a group of invisible people called “time sweepers”. These “time sweepers” are described as blue people wearing overalls if they are men and “old fashioned tweed jackets” if they are women. “Time Sweepers” sweep up wasted time. If Time Sweepers did not exist, we would be stuck in a world of infinite time. The Time Sweepers do not like taking holidays as it loses time. The story seems to focus around a small conflict between the Time Sweepers and the human beings. The humans waste lots of time so the Time Sweepers must remove the wasted time, where it is recycled. The author establishes a large presence of these time-sweepers by saying they are “around your desk, in your office, in a railway station”. The Time Sweepers are hinted as being secretive beings who act slightly like robots with no or little conscience. The Time Sweepers are not known about in large detail, as said in the quote “What the Time Sweepers do in their spare time is unknown”. The story tells about many people who have had a major use of Time Sweepers, such as the person who “spent 15 years thinking before asking his girlfriend out to dinner, by which time she had grey hair.” The story makes a comment on human life at this time saying that humans waste more time than we have ever done so in history and states that time that is enjoyed is not time wasted, contrary to many people’s thoughts on the topic. Overall I liked this short story because of the poetic prose the author took and the peculiarity of the…

Sarah was in her fourth year of college and about to graduate. She felt very accomplished as the graduation came closer. As she was signing up for her cap and gown, she dropped her pencil. She reached for the pencil and noticed someone reaching for that same pencil. As she looked up to see who was helping her, she almost fainted. She whispered "pinch me" and turned as red as a lobster. The young man said "Excuse me? Well, you dropped your pencil." It was Dreamy Steven. As he was about to turn around, he added: “Hey, you're Sarah, right?" Sarah was speechless. After a moment of silence, he said: “I meant to ask you to dinner freshman year, but never got to it. The offer is still open, if you are willing to take it." She finally opened her mouth to respond to his request. As she smiled, his face shifted in a weird manner. He then said: "On second thought, my girlfriend wouldn’t like that" and he walked away. Sarah was devastated and ran to a bathroom to hide from the embarrassment of being turned down by Dreamy Steven. She decided to shrug it off. As she was about to leave the bathroom, she decided to re-touch her make-up. She applied the lip-gloss and smiled in the mirror. She was horrified! Her smile showed a piece of lettuce in between her two front teeth from her lunch earlier that day. As she stepped out of the bathroom she was surprised to see that Dreamy Steven was outside waiting for her. Then he said: “I’m sorry I was trying to funny, but I guess I came off more cruel than funny. This is why I want to make it up to you. How about I take you out this Saturday to your favorite restaurant?” Sarah, surprised, looked up at him and answered, “YES!!”…

    A Journey Through Time

It all started on a brisk winter’s day. The tree tops were blowing gently in the wind and I sat outside on the porch with a friend of mine watching the trees and very faintly hearing dogs barking in the distance like they knew something was going to happen. I had been feeling slightly off all day, I wasn’t able to pin point the exact reason why, just felt a little off, so I just shrugged it off and didn’t think too deeply into it. My friend seemed to have noticed it too but didn’t make a big deal out of it. She was babbling endlessly about her relationship issues with her boyfriend and I looked at her as if I was listening, but really I wasn’t. After all, I had my own relationship issues that I was obsessing about. When she finally stopped talking to take a breath, I sipped my hot chocolate and said to her, “Wouldn’t it be something if humans were capable of time travel?” She said, “No! That’s way too scary, and very weird.” At that moment I looked up in the sky and saw a shooting star, and said, “Make a wish! Quick! I said, “I wish I was able to travel back in time.” The next thing I knew I was sitting outside on a beaten up old porch, wearing the same clothes, the same dark, brisk winter night, and still seeing the trees blowing in the gentle breeze. Something seemed different, I didn’t hear the dogs barking anymore but I thought nothing of it. I put my hot chocolate down and went in the house and everything was completely different. The house seemed older, and there were portraits on the wall of people I have never seen before. I called out my friends name and she did not answer. So I called her name louder, and still no answer. All of a sudden I hear a man’s voice in an accent that wasn’t even familiar to me, maybe Russian, say, “There you are!” I have been looking everywhere for you! Where have you been?” I thought to myself, who the heck is this? Then very excitedly he said, “Did you do the research that I asked you to do like 2…
