Several years ago while playing Parcheesi at “The Home for the Visually Offensive,” several semi-intellectual Clearwater businessmen had a sudden urge for the smell of rough sawn lumber and/or the taste of Buffalo style chicken wings. Knowing full well that they couldn’t agree on anything as a group, nor could they get a weekend pass from the “home” to go to Buffalo, they decided to embark upon a major undertaking. They would open a place in Clearwater where other people of their caliber could gather and quench their thirst for the finer things in life. Their venture, however, got off to a slow start. After announcing their plans, the “Hooters Six” (as they are now called) were promptly arrested for impersonating restaurateurs. There were no…

According to the official Lilith fair website, the festival is named after the legendary Lilith, who refused to obey Adam and instead bolted from the Garden of Eden to search the Earth for adventure. In 1996, concert promoters and radio stations refused to let two female musicians Sarah McLachlan-a Canadian musician and Paula Cole- an American singer-songwriter touring together because the corporate music community don’t think multiple female musicians have enough talents to convince people buying substantial concert tickets. That really made Sarah McLachlan became frustrated, so she decided to book her own tour with Paula Cole in her home town on September 14, 1996. The first Lilith Fair was born a year later with the cooperation of the Nettwerk Music Group 's Dan Fraser and Terry McBride, and New York talent agent Marty Diamond. Lilith fair earned an unexpected gross income $16 million in the first year and ranked 16th among the year 's Top 100 Tours. It took place during the summers of 1997 to 1999, and was revived in the summer of 2010. Although this fair didn’t stem from an idea to serve for politic movements, but in its initial three years, Lilith Fair raised over $10M for women 's charities throughout North America. It was the most successful all-female music festival in history, one of the…

The stadium is well known for its hosting duties of the SEC baseball tournament, showcasing the top twelve teams in the Southeastern Conference. However, most Friday nights, the stadium is occupied by Hoover football fans and players. Once the band arrives, we line up and march into the stadium to our cadence. Marching begins right outside of the buses, continues into the stadium, and ends once we have reached the section of the stadium, which has been designated for the band, prior to the fans arrival. The band plays a few stand chants while the Buccanettes dance along. Once the clock strikes 10 minutes until the game, the band marches behind the visiting stands to line up for pregame. Pregame includes the entire band marching onto the field to a cadence, turning towards the audience, standing at attention, then playing the national anthem and alma matter. After these two songs are played the band will march into a new formation on the field that will allow the players to run through while the band plays the fight song. Buccanettes stand in front of the band doing our stand dance to this tune, the cheerleaders held a huge sign for the players to run through and the colorguard would run across the field with large Buccaneer flags. The audience’s reaction made the all the previous hours of getting ready worthwhile. The student section was filled with shakers, lettermen, and hundreds of students. The rest of the stadium was filled with fans from the community. After pregame, the band would march back to the stands to begin more stand chants. The band played tunes such as ESPN, sunshine, the fight song, word up, and many others. At the beginning of the second quarter we would again march out of the stadium where stretching would take place to warm up for the halftime show. The first thing…

After countless games, practices, and competitions, nothing quite compares to standing on the eight panel mat in front of thousands of unfamiliar faces or a high school football game on Friday night. It is a unique atmosphere where there is an air of utter togetherness and positive energy that I have never experienced anywhere else during my four years of cheering.
