August Pullman was born with a disease called Mandibulofacial Dysostosis or Treacher Collins syndrome. Symptoms of this include: eyes that are slanted down wards, having no little to no nose, small jaw, or none at all, no ears, even sometimes having a cleft palate (no roof of your mouth), and a few more. August has all of these symptoms concerning his face. He has had many surgeries since he was born, but still August has a hard time hearing, smiling, and eating. Other than that he acts like any “normal” 10 year old would. All while having to deal with his disease, he also has to pull through having to handle the stress, and pain before, during, and after all of his surgeries. He likes to stay quiet, and just hang in the background, rather than loud and boisterous. Due to his facial features, August has a hard time not being the center of attention. People are always looking his way, staring, making rude and snarky comments, or even asking inexplicable questions. Which August is quite used to, but still feels uncomfortable about it. There are a few kids that are pretty close to August that he is comfortable to let loose. He enjoys talking, playing Star Wars, or just hanging out.
