Pain is an agonizing symptom array of people with persistent chronic and cancer encounter on a daily basis. Chronic pain furthers to anxiety, lack of appetite, depression and diminished patients’ quality of life and the support system. Having worked in an oncology department for nearly a decade, a substantial percent of cancer patients and chronic pain patients’ conveys inadequate pain control with the traditional treatment modality. According to Paley, Johnson, Tashani, and Bagnall (2015), “up to 70% of patients with cancer-related pain does not receive adequate pain relief, which affects their psychological and physical well-being and leads to a lower quality of life for patient” (p. 3). The complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is indeed noted as the treatment and prevention modality that complement the mainstream medicine by interjecting and sustaining the demand not fulfilled by the World Health Organization three-stepladder treatment modality. There will be a challenge in executing acupuncture clinical trial treatment, a difficult and impossible task, also impossible amongst the patient communities that do believe in CAM and reluctant to participate in being randomized. The recommendation of the herbal preparation for pain is challenging, the product quality is regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration differently from other supplemental over the counter and prescription medications, henceforth, inconsistent related to herbal quality will bring about validity and reliability
