Tube Learning Research Paper

Date: Mahuru/September 2017Kaiako: Jacqui Harlexx, I am still getting to know you and had set up the tube learning experience with another child in mind. You were really eager to have a turn though so I encouraged you to join our small group. I know that sometimes you can find tatari/waiting really hard and this learning experience required you to take turns with the other tamariki and wait for a turn. You really enjoyed putting the pōro/balls down the different tubes. Once they had rolled down a tube you had to walk around into the sandpit and retrieved your pōro, then you had to re-join the line and tatari for your turn. At first you found this really hard and wanted to push past the other tamariki to have another turn straight
away. I reminded you that you had to wait for your turn and helped you re-join the line at the back. I praised you for tatari, waiting can be so hard when you really, really to have a turn right then and there, but I knew you could wait. When it was your turn again I said to you “Great tatari Harlexx, now it’s your turn again,” you smiled at me and then put your ball once again down the tubes. Sometimes you were a bit sneaky and would scoop up your pōro in the sandpit and then turn around and quickly put it back down the tube so you didn’t have to walk right around the sandpit and join the line of waiting children. While I could appreciate your great problem solving and solution to not wanting to tatari it was not fair on the other children who were tatari, so I once again reminded you that you needed to join the line. You looked like you were going to cry so I took your hand and helped you join the line, ‘Come on Harlexx, lets go get back in the line behind Sequoia, then you can have another turn.” You came with me, re-joined the line, and waited once again for your turn. “Great tatari for your turn,” I told you.
