Worker characteristics that can cause job stress may include the following such as I need to be in control at all times. I also lack of control which makes me feel as a sign of weakness. I also have major, major difficulty delegating assignments to others. I feel as though no one else can do this job the way it should be done. I also avoid showing signs of weakness or nervousness. My ultimate desire is to please people which are one of my weaknesses. I also have a fear of disappointment to others and most of all I need to be perfect. When asked to write about this, I could not believe these are some of the things that I or most people do on a daily basis and for us to control or manage it I believe that companies need to “design jobs to provide meaning, stimulation, and opportunities for workers to use their skills. By clearly defining workers ' roles and responsibilities and giving workers opportunities to participate in decisions and actions affecting their jobs they can improve communications and social interaction among workers.” (Jacobs 2012). However for me as a person I need to take long deep breaths, listen to music which calms me, and move away from the computer and take a walk for about 5-10mins break, which helps me manage my stress during the day.…
Stress is a highly personalized phenomenon and can vary widely even in identical situations for different reasons. One survey showed that having to complete paper work was more stressful for many police officers than the dangers associated with pursuing criminals. The severity of job stress depends on the magnitude of the demands that are being made and the individual’s sense of control or decision-making latitude he or she has in dealing with them. Scientific studies based on this model confirm that workers who perceive they are subjected to high demands but have little control is at increased risk for cardiovascular disease.…
* This week I learned that in order to lessen stress you need to be organized and time conscious. Basically, this means that you have to create a schedule and follow it in order to accomplish all of the things that you need to get done. Many people with poor time management have heart attacks and other help problems due to stress.…

Whether at work or home I try to make sure that all tasks be completed within it’s time frame, if there are more than several tasks then a to-do-list by priority is the best option, that way I’ll know what needs to be completed by priority. Finally the assessment that really got me was “How Stressed are you?” (Bauer & Erdogan, 2013) the results were extremely high. I thought that the result would be average or minimal. Of course there are some days that can be frustrating than others but its nothing that I can’t handle. It’s the out of your control type of stress that I think is the factor, there is nothing that can be done about it right away it would take more time to…

Selye estimated that the inability to adjust successfully to life situations and stress is at “the very root of the disease producing conflict (i.e., improper reactions to life situations)” (Wiley, 2000, on-line). Suffice to say, stage three is not a desirable level to reach when dealing with stressors. The general adaptation syndrome reflects Selye’s belief that an “ever increasing proportion of people die from the socalled wear and tear diseases, diseases of civilization, or degenerative diseases, which are primarily stress” (Wiley, 2000, on-line). While stress has positive implications (in manageable doses), such as increasing one’s level of alertness and cognition, its negative implications are the main focus of attention in the literature. Motowidlo, Packard, and Manning (1986) define stress as an “unpleasant emotional experience associated with elements of fear, dread, anxiety, irritation, annoyance, anger, sadness, grief, and depression” (p. 618). Ullrich and Fitzgerald (1990) write, “stress is a result from an imbalance between the demands of the workplace and the individual’s ability to cope” (p. 1013). Stress is usually associated with the environment or situation in which it is being experienced. For example, occupational stress is “the harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when the requirements of a job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the workers” (National Institute…
I am a person who has “strong feelings about obstacles and challenges at work” (Career Feedback Report 13), and does not deal with stress very well. One example of this is during these past two weeks for exams. I had four exams so far, which all contributed to my stress levels rising. I had problems dealing with so many exams, that the stress sometimes made it hard to study and concentrate.…

After taking the type A behavior pattern test I scored a total of 57 points. Since this is a score that exceeds 53 points it means I have a type A personality and can be considered more susceptible to stress and its effects. I honestly agree with my score because I’m very susceptible to the effects of stress. When I’m confronted with serious changes to my regular schedule, I tend to become anxious and irritable. I find myself out of my element and start to doubt whether or not I can overcome the challenges I’m presented with.…
If you asked me about myself, I would respond without any doubt, “I am Britney, a stress resistant person.” I think maintaining full control over your emotional response to life 's complications plays an important role in the way your day is shaped, and that of others. Confidence in one 's abilities and a clear mind gives way to more calculated decisions, rather than falling victim to a potentially hectic environment. According to Dr. Keith Horinouchi, “stress resistance” means “the body’s ability to handle everyday stresses, preferably through a healthy lifestyle.” Now, stress resistance is my motto, which always reminds me how I should react to any difficulties that I face on my life 's path. However, I was not always this way. I would say that this is a skill that I have slowly developed over the course of my life. Stress resistance is what helps me in every difficult situation.…
