Part 1: Living in a diverse world

1. What is meant by diversity?

Diversity is the acceptance of the existence of differences; these differences can be divided in gender, ethnic group, culture, age, religion and class.
Every person is different from other person in some aspects, but similar in others. The way people differ can be moulded by both hereditary and personal life experiences.

Personal, social and cultural identities.

I work in a school and every day I see people from different countries, different age, asylum seekers, some of them are Catholic, Hindu or Muslin, with the same objective to learn English or to improve their computer skills. There are a group of older unemployed people interested in brush up their ITQ skills. Many immigrants that want to improve their English. Female Muslim students wear scarves; some of them need to finish early sometimes to go to the temple pray to God in the afternoon, some students find it hard to concentrate when they are practicing the fast for the Ramadan period. Hindu people also have different eating habits.
