Describe the skills required for an event organiser.
Skills:
Communication and interpersonal skills:
Communication is really important for an event. If people don’t communicate good enough. Maybe you order way to many food, or maybe way to less food for example. It doesn’t matter where you communicate about. If you don’t do it good, there are going to be mistakes guaranteed.
Time management:
When you are an event organiser you have to multi-task. Which means doing more things at the same time. So you have to focus on what is important now and do the less important things later. So that means you can’t keep checking your personal email and facebook. Also a big mistake made is waiting on someone else. If they don’t do their work, tell them. Make them do their work! And go on with your next task. Also being not organised is a big mistake. If you lose certain papers, you might be screwed.
Problem solving:
At almost every event things go wrong. But when something goes wrong, you have to pick things up and make it even better. Sometimes problems can’t be seen from the beginning. At those moments an event manager has to think quickly and get it solved. Quick thinking can be the saviour of your event.
Negotiating:
I think this is a really, really important skill. Because you have to make the best for you, but also for the opposite party. It’s actually a little game you play. It’s about being a ‘’Mr. Nice Guy’’. With a friendly, happy attitude you reach more than putting a grumpy face on. This is a skill I own myself. Because I work at a car sales company. I have to negotiate with my customers to. So I know how hard it can be sometimes.
Planning:
I think that this is the most important thing
