Health and safety within the aviation industry needs to be constantly monitored and controlled in order for it to be improved. The reason this needs to be done Is to see if things are running according to plan and running correctly. Health and safety can be monitored in a number of ways these ways include:
Routine staff reports-
A routine staff report is a review on how things are going with staff in the airport, if they are achieving company goals and complying to the company’s standards. aviation industry they usually summaries progress of staff, identifies what they can do better and improve within their job and praise them for what they have done that’s good. A routine staff report is good because staff can be notified of what they need to do better without causing tense situations and prejudice. Some routine staff reports are done monthly these re produced by line mangers or supervisors and senior managers. They are usually formatted in a formal way and never usually sent by email. They are usually a sit down individual discussion with the manger about your performance like a meeting. These reports can also be discussed with other managers and supervisors. A staff report can also include information about how well the business /industry are doing and other important notices about target market, sales and performance.
Types of inspections- Routine inspections happen every 6 months to ensure there are no hazards to health and staff.
Inspections can also happen once a year. Frequency of inspections depends on the type of work and activity that is taking place in the workplace each day. It also depends on whether the activities are high risk or low risk. The inspector will take a tour of the workplace inspecting if there are any hazards such as frayed wiring. They will also sample dangerous activities by observing someone doing that activity or doing it themselves. There are different types of inspections such as incident inspections that are only carried out after injury, fatality, or ill health. Authorities have to give notice in writing of an impending inspection and when they intend on carrying this out. employees. An unannounced inspection is unplanned and happens without anyone knowing.
The inspectors turn up and review health and safety to see if it is up to standards. A unannounced inspection usually gives inspectors an insight into the level of health and safety standards that the workers are working in on a daily basis whereas with a routine planned inspection mangers have time to clean the shop and ensure it is perfect for inspection.
Risk assessment reviews- A risk assessment review is the reviewing and revisiting of a previous risk assessment that has already been done. This is done to see if the procedures are still a risk and if there are any new instructions or procedures that must be taken that were not in the original risk assessment when it was first competed. A risk assessment review is a way of monitoring risks and eliminating and minimizing accidents an example of this can be doing maintenance work on a vehicle ensure that it is stable and supported in order for the mechanic to be under the vehicle without it falling on them.
Control-
Control measures are what are in place to enable companies to manage and control health and safety procedures in the work place. These regulations include the safety and regulation of aircrafts, accident reporting and training procedures within the aviation industry in order to keep health and safety to a high standard.
Health and safety regulations- These regulations are set by the health and safety executive there are a range of regulations under the health and safety act such as the health and safety at work act. This is a key piece of legislation that covers occupational health and safety. It Protects persons against risks related to health and safety in connection with work related activities. The purpose of this act is keeping the UK safer and protecting employees from conditions that may affect their health and safety such as hazardous chemicals. . The act is a legal requirement it promotes and encourages employers to present high standards and safer working conditions. The Health and Safety Executive is responsible for enforcing the Act and other acts that are relevant to the working environment. It is now a legal requirement for companies to undertake a risk assessment, to ensure the safety of workers and prevent accidents in the workplace. The Act also states that safety procedures must be displayed clearly, workers have to be trained to use machines and equipment, PPE must be worn at all times. Risks must be monitored at all times as well.
