They are the current World Cup winners. They have a one of the best leagues. They develop amazing players year after year. Also, some of the current USA men’s national team players have German heritage. (Hongstein) The other big key factor is that we have their former manager in Jürgen Klinsmann. The manager that led them to the 2006 World Cup semifinals, he is also credited with saving the German National Team. (Hongstein) A key factor in that though is that he had an amazing assistant, who is the current German National Team Manager in Joachim Löw. One of the many great things Jürgen did was work with the Double Pass System in Germany. (Bird, Double Pass and its Plan to Change U.S. Soccer)He has also elected to do this for America. Essentially, the Double Pass System rates soccer academies on a number of factors and helps them earn higher marks. The Double Pass System is an extremely thorough audit of your development academies. Many German club teams were helped by the Double Pass system and they now produce many top talents. Another recent National Team to go through the Double Pass System is the Belgium National Team. They are supposedly having a golden generation right now, coincidence, I think not. For someone who lives in New York and has to go to a camp in California the plane ticket alone must cost over one thousand dollars. A scholarship for the United States Soccer is $400,000 dollars, which covers all your travel and other expenses. (Bird, Double Pass and its Plan to Change U.S. Soccer) That is about as much as a Bundesliga team may spend on their academy for a whole year! My solution to centralize scouting in America is to not leave it up solely to USA soccer but to leave it up to MLS, NASL, USL, and other professional teams to develop young players and to make academies. That is how most other countries do soccer development. Kids will sign with a team at age 10 or younger and be professionally developed by professional soccer coaches. They will train in extremely intense environments, and most will never come close to succeeding. But, those who do succeed have been professionally trained for most of their lives. Compare that to a U.S.A kid who, at the same age, is probably being coached by there friends dad may
