Violent Sports Persuasive Speech
As a child I was really into wrestling and action movies, I never really understood why my parents will not allow me to watch these movies or shows. Until one day my twin sister and I were watching WWE (wrestling show), we were babysitting my little sister and we thought it would be funny to act out a scene. We chased my little sister into the hallway and jump on her thinking that we were just having fun. We heard a loud pop and then my little sister started yelling from the top of her lungs. Long story short we ended up breaking her right leg, I’ve never felt so horrible in my life because at the time it seem fun and careless. Ever since that incident we never watch wrestling again. I feel this accident changed the way of thinking, growing up I became more conservative. Don’t get me wrong I do get upset every now and then but I do try to control my anger. …show more content…
For one we can let a child know that they have done wrong by verbally talking to the child. Growing up my parents would use the “three strikes rule” they would first talk to me to let me know that I have done wrong; if that did not work they will move one to the second strike. Grounded or taking away my prize position would be my second strike, for example I loved to text and be on my phone, so my parents would take away my phone. Thirdly they will move on to the physical punishment, now this one hurt the most because not only did I get two chances or strikes I also got a spanking. I feel growing up these “three strikes” help me become the person that I am today. I am not saying that I am perfect but I can say that I do have a lot of

Simple physical punishments; such as pinching, flicking, and spanking, are carried out on us at a very young age, and all throughout life. Our parents are here to discipline us, to teach us the difference of right and wrong. When we first misbehave, our parents might tell us to “knock it off” or “stop” and they may raise their voice when asserting these commands. We sometimes stop when told to, but sometimes we ignore their commands and keep misbehaving repeatedly. This is where physical punishment comes into play. A form of physical punishment would and will be carried out on us. At first it may be a simple punishment, but gradually the punishments intensify. Once a punishment has been carried out, many of us become cloaked in fear of punishment and from this fear we learn not to do that mistake again. Simple punishment is used for the good of children and to discipline them, “Dr. David Safir, father of five and grandfather of five, CNN asked him to talk to us about his views on spanking. He said he was spanked as a child, spanked his own children when necessary and believes the occasional use of physical punishment -- not abuse -- can be an effective tool for parents” (Zeidler) If these simple punishments are executed out…

As a child, I was guided in different ways. If I acted up, I got a spanking. If I was good, then I got rewarded. I believe that children should be taught with positive behaviors. If a child acts up, don’t jump down their throat, talk to them. If a child hits, I remove them from the setting and talk to them about why we…

”Don’t Spare the rod and spoil the child.” We have all heard that before, as a child I heard it a lot. I was not the most well behaved child, so I got into plenty of trouble. My mom hated my temper tantrums. When I was little, she disciplined me, and now I am a well behaved young adult who knows right from wrong. Discipline is a way of teaching a child how to do what is right while growing up. There are multiple ways to discipline a child and make him/her behave. I feel that it is very important to begin to disciplining children when they are young so they know what is expected of them.it gives them a better sense of right and wrong while growing up once a child has reached his/her teenage years it is too late to begin the discipline process. If parents begin early, I believe that the most effective ways of disciplining children are timeout, taking away privileges, talking to the child, and, as a last resort, and spanking.…

Children cannot possibly benefit from “discipline” in the form of punishment. Simply put, punishment is disrespectful treatment of a child that will result short-term cooperation but further behavior problems long-term. No child should have to endure such negative modification methods intended to humiliate them with a goal of teaching appropriate behavior. Sadly, however, some adults think they are doing what is best for the child. But what can a child possibly learn from hearing a parent say, “If you hit your brother one more time, I'm gonna spank you!” The child interprets that message as “if I hit him, then you're going to hit me.” There is no valuable lesson…

Some also try rewarding their kids for good behavior. “When a child is verbally corrected, apart from the use of any other form of punishment, the result is almost always a disaster. The child quickly learns that you are all talk and no action. A child then learns that the tongue lashing is that, just a voice. Therefore they learn how to tune you out.” (usingspakingdiscipline.com). Rewarding children for good behavior teaches them that they should only be good to get something out of it. They need to learn that they can do good deeds for the purpose of being a good person, not to get a reward. Children may also learn to behave badly to get a reward. Grounding your kids usually never work. Most parents ground their kids and forget that they have an electronic world inside their bedrooms. Sure they’d love to sit in their room all week and play their video games and play on the computer. Grounding will not work unless parents take away all…

If a child does something wrong, how do we as people correct it? In the United States, many families seem to think that spanking a child is the way to correct the misdemeanor that the child has committed. If a child bites another child, should the child get spanked? I believe that if a child does something that is known to be wrong, than the child should have some sort of punishment. If a parent does the spanking out of anger, instead of for the purpose of correcting, than I feel as if spanking should be allowed. I personally was spanked as a child, and I knew if I did something wrong I would get it from my mother. I eventually got to the point where when I talked back to my mother I knew I was getting my mouth smacked and feared talking back. These days kids say what they want to their parents and aren’t afraid of doing so. Respect has gone out of the window for most kids, and they don’t even care that they have disrespected their parent. They say what they want, how they want it, and when they want to say it, with no thought of having any consequences to their actions. My immediate thought is, if I said that to my mother, I wouldn’t be able to sit for days, and I learned my lesson quickly. I came from a low income family with my mother being a single parent of 3 children all within 4 years. A lot of publications state that spanking in low class creates a violent outcome in the children. My brother, sister, and myself all have come out to be highly respectable children and have families and children of our own. We all have come from low class to middle class families.…

Some will argue that corporal punishment is okay because it teaches your child right from wrong. An interview done a parent stated that they used the action of spanking their children and they believe that is taught them right from wrong. The parents explained that when they would lie, they would get spanked so the next time they thought about lying they would remember of the hurt from the spanking. I then interviewed the children of this family who are now a 12 year old girl and a 16 year old boy. They both stated that they knew right from wrong even when they did the wrong action and would still get consequences for it. The daughter told me a story of her not making her bed one morning. She explained that it is a big deal in their household and the children always are to clean their rooms and make their beds. However, they never had consequences from the action not being done until one day when the dad came home to find her bed unmade, she was beaten pretty severely. This happened 3 years ago and she stated that she remember it as though it happened yesterday. They both then went on to share that their parents expected them to live perfect…

But in a study, mothers who combined reasoning with negative consequences had the most success in changing negative behavior. Den A. Trumbull, M.D.; president of the American College of Pediatricians believes spanking is a proven way to reinforce milder disciplinary tactics. The researchers came to a conclusion that spanking disobedient 2- to 6- year-olds worked just as well at reforming their behaviors as 13 alternative disciplinary approaches like giving a time-out, reasoning with a child, and taking away privileges. As long as the parents explains the reason for their action it should not be considered corporal punishment. "Some kids are difficult to parent. At times, they simply won't stay in a time-out and they can't be reasoned with," says Robert Larzelere, Ph.D., author of the Clinical Child review…

Most people grew up being spanked and they turned out alright so it seems like a good way to teach children right and wrong. However, spanking can be very bad for a child's development, it can teach them unwanted behavior and children shut down when they are being spanked. It can difficult to teach a child purely from spank, and there are other methods that parents can look into to teach a child. There is also evidence that shows that a child should not be physically punished and that there are other methods to teach a child what is right and what is wrong.…

Spankings, name-calling, and yelling mothers and fathers have corrected their children this way for years. For centuries, children were considered the property of the parents. Parents were able to discipline their children in any way they saw fit. As time has progressed, the courts have taken an interest in how children are disciplined. The courts think and people who spank their children are abusing them, children should be in the care of their biological parents, and the punishment for child abuse is adequate. Society has not done enough to protect vulnerable children.…
