we day
We Day is an annual "youth empowerment" event organized by the Free the Children charity. Held in cities across Canada and the United States, We Day motivates youth to take action on local and global issues. Since 2007, thousands of Canadian students have attended We Day events, which feature speeches and performance from global leaders, social activists and public figures.I think that my attendance at WE Day 2014 will have a positive impact on our school this year because I believe that if I go, I will be able to take information and bring it back to the school and try to make a change, locally and even globally. I believe that this is a huge opportunity. This conference is very beneficial because it is a student-lead conference. It allowed us, students to use our voice and speak up. At the video we watched, I realized how important it is to use your voice in a positive way to help people. You don’t only need to use your voice; you can get your message out in any way, media, arts or verbally. I learned that student voice is important because, we are the ones who are the future to making our world a better place.
Amazing1 It is hard to believe that I could be one of the lucky students to have a huge opportunity and be able to go to WE DAY. I felt like I had a winning lottery,Its a dream come true for me.
I have always wanted to go to WE DAY because I wanted to be inspired like the millions of people who went to WE DAY! I because I wanted to have a voice and be able to stand up to people!

One of Boston University’s notable alumni’s once said “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?’”. These words spoken by Martin Luther King, Jr. has encouraged me throughout my high school career to not only involve myself in community services but also host events in order to raise awareness to others. I know that BU’s CSC Empowerment League is the perfect fit for me because I can continue to help the community.…

This year’s event we did the theme of Remembering Our Students/ Recordando Nuestros Estudiantes. In relation to the current movements regarding Black Lives Matter, police brutality, Ayotzinapa 43, school shootings, and indigenous women missing. I think this event is important to our campus, because SCSU is a diverse campus with very close minded individuals. So this brings the aspect of culture and tradition with the Dia de Los Muertos celebration and MEChA’s activist focus of political issues. These two combined can provide knowledge and awareness to those students who are unaware or misinformed. As well as taking on the problem of cultural appropriation with the recent American popularization of sugar skulls and Dia de…

Throughout the past few years I have taken part in many projects and activities to foster education and global engagement. The most recent is my upcoming outreach trip to the Agnes Zabali Boys and Girls Club. This trip was planned by myself, 3 other education students and our faculty supervisor. The purpose of this trip is to provide support for the Agnes Zabali Boys and Girls Club (AZBGC). As Education students, we are taking this opportunity to provide daily lessons for the children who visit the Boys and Girls Club. We started the planning in September and we have put in over 120 hours since then in order to make this trip as beneficial for the children at the AZBGC. Apart of this planning, we have raised funds to help support the children's’ education costs. While planning for this outreach trip, I decided to partner with a local grade seven class to teach them about social justice. Their classroom teacher told me that with the recent media attention in the USA she is having difficulty teaching her students about justice and discrimination. We decided to partner together to teach both the Ugandan Children as well as the Canadian grade seven class about what it is like to live in a different part of the world. This partnership will entail writing letters to each other as well as creating a video about life in each of their respective locations.…

Claudette and Malala heroically stood up for their injustices in the community. Claudette didn’t get up knowing the backlash she could get for not being oppressed by a “superior”. Malala got up that morning knowing that she probably wouldn’t return home that day. I feel like these women knew the risk but fought for their rights that had been taking like they were a child on punishment this why I nominate these for this essay.…

On Saturday March 8 I attended the rockabilly festival that took place in Pitzer College. This was a great experience because I had the opportunity to feel what it was like during the rock n roll times. I was invited to go through Mr. Molina in MECHA to help out with fundraising. I was there all day selling raffle tickets to people who attended the festival in order to raise money for the MECHA scholarship. Through this experience I had the chance to practice on my communication skills by persuading people to buy tickets.…

Giving people an escape for an hour or two is how I’m trying to positively influence the world now. Sharing the wisdom of a play with an audience creates a very genuine experience that virtually erases the line between performers and observers because both indulge in the moment. Barnard’s Theater program gives me the opportunity to reach out to more people, and learn in one of the most artistic cities in the world. I have a gentle demeanor but my will is strong. Barnard nurtures girls with unstoppable determination, and I believe that I stand in the same category. They produce women who take on the world and change it for the…

However, the more media coverage and the more conversation students were having around me, the more I knew that staying silent was not the choice I was going to make. It was then that I performed one of the most courageous acts I have at that moment in my life. I went to social platform and voiced my concerns about the accepted ignorance and lack of attention any racial, religious,or gender-based issues receive. Where before I choose to fit in, I now understood that I have every opportunity to change the course of the social environment of America- it starts by standing up for what I believe in now. My views are just as valid as anyone else's. I actively put myself out there to make one happen. Building up the confidence to be the role model, leader, and most importantly the person I want to be proved to be the best personal development that helped me grow more responsible for my actions and act compassionately to those around me. Overcoming my fear judgement from my peers enabled me to use my voice as a tool to preach love, equality, and justice and my choice to be a part of society by bringing awareness to others is one that I take pride in more than anything…
