Research has found that children that had spent the most time in day care had slightly advanced thinking and language skills. However they had an increased rate of aggressiveness and defiance. Some risk when spending a lot of time in day care can be bad. Daycare can be good for cognitive development and daycare can be bad by making kids more aggressive and impulsive. Children in higher quality daycare develop slightly better cognitive and language skills than being in lower quality daycares. Factors that might influence how strongly daycare affects a child are, the time spent in a daycare, and the daycare settings and how there organized. Like the high quality daycares consist of warm supportive interactions with adults in a safe, healthy and stimulating environment, whereas poor care is boring and unresponsive to children’s needs. If I had a child that needed to attend daycare the factors that would influence my decision about whether or not to use daycare, would be if I had an occupation, and I didn’t’ have anyone to care for my child or if my child was an only child that needed to learn and interact and socialize with other children their age. I would select the daycare by visiting the daycare and talking with the staff and observe the facility.
