After the decision came through on exactly how they are meant to combat each other the two armies got to work. In the first year there was little progress by either side as neither army had any idea on how to go about this method of conflict. Into the second year of war the battle lines started shifting the bulbs started to learn and adapt. The third year was possibly the most chaotic of the war as the borders shifted rapidly with the position of experienced officers and armies were moved to different fronts. By the fourth year the the war hit its rhythm as groups with home turf advantage and veterancy started to stop the rapid shifting of battlelines. In the fifth year little progress was made as the various defensive forces had dug in and refused to budge. By the sixth years end the two armies had gotten tired of fighting but could not come up with a way to end it as both sides were still holding strong at their various chokepoints. Midway through the seventh both armies pushed for peace in their respective political bodies. By the end of the seventh year the Bulbperor and Prime Bulb of the Halogen and Fluorescent nations signed the “Treaty of Electric Cooperation” in which they agreed to keep the borders as they were by the end of the war and to a peace treaty for twenty years. Thus the Lightbulb war ended not in a total victory but a tired peace

The Battle of the Somme took place during 1916 to take pressure off the French at Verdun and the Russians on the Eastern Front. The French were under heavy fire at Verdun and had been since February, and the army itself was close to cracking.
