Ice Cube-Colour Blind
Colour blind is a song that belonged to a rapper, Ice Cube. In this song, Ice Cube has delivered a message that different shades of life cannot be seen by people, rather they see the entire world to be either black or white in colour. People have developed a white and black thinking mindset. People perceive things either as positive or negative. In other words, this song represents the lack of variation and diversity that makes the life of an individual to be completely sustainable. “It is one of the commonest of mistakes to consider that the limit of our power of perception is also the limit of all there is to perceive.”(Leadbeater) Many people believe the way something is perceived, is always the way that it appears to be. In reality, there might be more to a person he is willing to show. If we assume that the way someone or something is seen is always as it appears to be, we would be lying to ourselves. Nowadays in society, many people are trying to fit in with other people to become a normal individual, and by that, I mean being a conformist. In contrast, individual do not care about the society or their surrounding, giving them pressure. They want to be themselves, they go for shock value. In “The Sociology of Leopard Man” by Logan Feys, “Two Kind” by Amy Tan and Dead Poets Society by Peter Weir, the main characters are somehow a conformist in some ways, but actually they’re trying to break through the wall that prevents them from achieving their happiness. I believe that in order to to happy and one unique individual, people should look at things differently and in the ways that they want to in order to achieve their wants and who they want to be.…

Some people’s are larger and more prominent than others, but one wants to own up to their inner evils because that’s human nature. Everyone wants to be seen as an innocent person, not someone who has all this inner evil or sin hidden inside them. I believe that our current society has a lot of impact on that. No one has the courage to be their true selves anymore because they feel like they have too much pressure from society and social media to be a perfect, model being. Sadly, there are many people who try to be true to themselves and are bullied or looked down upon because of it , yet on the other side of the spectrum, there are people who hide the real them for so long that they get so caught up in it and can never act like who they truly are on the inside anymore. Yes, everyone has their own hidden secrets, but to be true to themselves and own up to it, they need to accept it in their own hearts and no longer hide behind their own black…

Statements like “I don’t see color” or “We are all just people,” are good examples that one might be engaging with colorblindness. Colorblindness often acts as a person’s denial to acknowledge another’s race or ethnicity as a relevant part of their identity. One might take the colorblind stance in order to be a “neutral” player in the discussion of race. A good example of this is Stephen Colbert’s skit on colorblindness on the Colbert Report, because he illustrates both the consequences of the colorblind position and the benefits of addressing the topic as a white man.…

We’ve all seen or heard people telling you how to look, feel, or act. People telling you to change,so you can fit in or look better. We all have been pressured to be something we’re not. Society thinks that conformity is huge part of life, that it keeps everything together. Conformity is important, but what’s more important is being unique, being yourself not someone you’re not. It is not good for individuals to change their feels, beliefs, looks, or actions to fit in with society because you’re basically changing your image to impress people.…

Most think that racism is an issue of the past, when in fact racism is a very present issue. Many times racism is unintentional, in Brad Paisley 's Accidental Racist (2013), Paisley is acknowledging that racism still exists. He sings about how simple things can be mistaken as racism from an outsiders perspective. To prove that racism is a two way street that affects both whites and blacks, LL Cool J is featured rapping on the struggles of the “other side”. While Paisley brings it all together by singing on the history of country and the effects on this generation.…
