As a student, it is vital to act as a sponge to absorb information and actively seek out feedback. By asking questions and using peers and faculty to provide alternative ideas to develop the best care for a patient, I am improving my skills as a future physical therapist to be able to solve complex patient problems. As a strong believer in this concept, I sought out the opportunity to become a Certified Nursing Aide to not only have an opportunity to help people in need but as an opportunity to be an active learner. I became a C.N.A. so I could learn the skills needed to a successful healthcare professional and to develop both my communication skills with other healthcare members as well as interpersonal skills between myself and patients. This unique experience helped me develop mindfulness of demeanor, language, and appearance in a clinical setting and has taught me how to work alongside others to work as a team. Much like being a student in a doctor of physical therapy program, it is of the utmost importance that all work together to help each other become successful physical therapists.
