Sinek refers to the problem of ‘instant gratification’ and explains that we, millennials, receive what we want, how we want it and whenever we want it. We've grown up in a world where instant gratification is a common trait of living. You want to know the score of the Australian Open? Just google it. Can’t find a decent hotel? Use Trivago. Craving sushi but don't want to drive? Open your Uber Eats app. Every aspect of our lives has some form of technology, or an app, that gives us the answers we are to impatient or lazy to discover ourselves. He emphasized how our generation is given everything for nothing which in turn has created unrealistic expectations in the working environment.

In the experiment, kids (approximately 6 years of age) were left alone in a room with a single marshmallow for fifteen minutes. If they waited did not eat the marshmallow, they could receive two of them later. After this, researchers monitored the children throughout their lives. It was discovered that children who waited for the second marshmallow, portrayed higher levels of self-motivation and self-control than the other children that chose not to wait. Similarly, they possessed fewer behavioural problems, were easily relied on, and achieved much higher marks. Tin their adult life, the children who waited had higher paid jobs. This proves that delaying gratification leads to greater levels of perseverance, determination and sacrifice. An example of instant gratification is ordering fast food to “save time”, most of us turn to fast food. This is very unhealthy. Delaying gratification also affects ones mental health. Studies have revealed that people who practice delayed gratification are generally much happier and cherish life more.
• Save Money – avoiding the urge to impulsively purchase a product in the moment will result in money saved for later.
• Be More Appreciative – People who are cautious about their purchases and choices find that they appreciate them a lot more. The hard work, planning, and personal effort that went into receiving the desired outcome are also appreciated.
• Enjoy Things More - Delaying gratification will, as mentioned earlier, cause you to enjoy life more. A small example of this finishing my work until I watch a movie - both the work and movie will be enjoyed
