Wonder, a family oriented movie about overcoming challenges was an amazing movie and novel. It tells the story of Auggie, a 10 years old boy who starts middle school after being home schooled his whole life. The catch is: he has a facial deformity after going through almost 30 surgeries throughout his young life. The movie goes through his life at school while making friends and dealing with bullying, but also deals with Auggie’s home life and how his family deals with his facial deformities. Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson, two well known actors play opposite as his parents and Izabela Vidovic plays his sister Via. The movie speaks about bullying, acceptance and the power that friendship has over someones life. These important themes were prevalent throughout the movie in several different ways.

The movie had the basis of any entertaining movie; starting off introducing characters, create a problem, watch characters grow throughout the movie and end off on a happy note solving the problem. The directors and producers accomplished this fabulously, but I especially liked the little details they put in there to educate the audience about facial deformities and about overcoming challenges. I loved how they included how difficult it is to have a sibling with a facial deformity, especially when you are starting school or you have a problem you don’t feel like you can go to your parens for help. Learning about Treacher Collins Syndrome from different perspectives, including the person who has the deformity is crucial to the understanding and acceptance of the syndrome and other similar craniofacial syndromes. They did an excellent job of explaining what the syndrome entails without going through boring details in order to keep the audience
