What kind of learner are you?

Back in grade school, I may say that I am a really active, participative and motivated student. I would always get awards and certificates. I do enjoy most of the lessons that are tackled. And sometimes, when the topic really got me interested, I would even expound my learnings through researches and internet browsing. I usually learn best when I listen to the teacher’s oral teaching. And also I would cooperate more in the class if the teacher is nice and considerable. But there are times when I would feel too tired because there’s too much homework and the pacing of our lessons is too slow that every topic would be repeated every day and it may get too draggy and redundant.

When I reached high school, things were different. I can’t just use “stock knowledge” or just listen to the teacher’s oral teaching. I may have to refer to books or do advance reading. Maybe the reason why I got tired and lazy to study because of my science teacher. He would never teach us significant things and just end up wasting the whole period with his life’s story. And then it got me unfocused and all the other subjects got affected.

Now, I am taking up Early Childhood Education as my major in college. Honestly, taking up an education course is never my choice. I chose business courses but frantically, I got redirected. But I don’t have any regrets that I took up an education course. It’s an eye opener, it made me more aware and sensitive of my surroundings and the people I interact with. As I study how to teach children, I might as well figure out how I can quickly learn and cope with all the fast pacing in the college life. I suggest teachers should emphasize major points in their lessons and may give a lot of examples for us to figure out how we should apply it in the real life. Teachers should also find out the interests of the students so that they would be able to catch the attention of every student and might as well encourage them to participate a lot in class discussion.
