The covenant with Abraham is one of the biggest covenants made. In the first parts of Genesis 12, 15, and 17 we see the covenant made between God and Abraham. God promises Abraham that he will make him into a great nation and will bless him and that his name will be made great and he will be a blessing to those around him. In the next chapter he goes on to tell him that his offspring will be as numerous as the stars in the sky. God also tells him that he will have his own family offspring from the same line to take over his leadership. God also tells him in chapter 17 that he, “will be the father to all nations”. After the covenant is established with God, and Abraham gets older, Abraham realizes that he has yet to have any children. He is angry with God and wonders why he hasn’t had any children. His wife was very old and was barren and God promised him offspring as numerous as the stars in the sky and blood relation to take over his authorship over the nations. Abraham struggles with this for a long time and then finally God sends him a son so that Abraham’s name can live on. This shows how God keeps his promises and doesn’t forget them.
