School is a place to discover. To discover new friends, hobbies, feelings, likes, dislikes, but most importantly to discover passions. As James Barrie once said “ Nothing is really work, unless you’d rather be doing something else”. When you discover the things you like you progress with them and flourish in them. However, many teenagers are being pushed towards to low-quality "dead end" vocational courses, when really they should be pushed into doing things in which they find passion and enjoyment within, not a high salary or a superior seat in the employment world. Too many teenagers are leaving school without adequate basic skills. Professor Wold said : "For 20 years we have toyed around with vocational education but succeeded only in creating a bureaucratic and expensive system that limits the life chances of too many young people." Students should be pushed towards the subjects which are crucial in succeeding but most of all the ones which make them a better person and they ones which are enjoyable and interesting. These include: Physical education, maths, science and english.
Physical education has many reasons why it should be in the school curricular. Firstly, it improves the students endurance, physical competence, and develops the students cardiovascular system. If the student has a good cardiovascular system from regular exercise it means they have excellent blood and oxygen circulation. This means more nutrients circulate in the blood. This circulation leads to longer attention span during other classes allowing longer concentration and absorption. Secondly, it builds self-esteem. According to most social school studies students that are active in physical activities are most confident within themselves. PE brings out the best in students as it is an enjoyable, and engaging lesson. Therefore the students are self-disciplined and dedicated to sport, which, therefore brings out the best in them. In
