Whipping Girl: A Class Analysis
In last week’s class I truly felt like the class had some of the best conversations we had ever had, at least in my opinion. I had a really great conversation with my small group about some of the previous readings and how we at times, felt awkward due to having far different opinions of the readings than our other classmates, especially when it came to the parenting books we had read, such as the one discussing how to come to terms with having an intersex child. I also really enjoyed how the clinical graduate students and the counseling graduate students helped explain why disorders such as gender dysphoria and gender identity even existed within the DSM. All in all, I felt like the whole class really came together and had a great conversation …show more content…
On Page 24, within the first chapter, Serano makes a point to mention that “a person’s sex is defined based on the presence or absence of a penis”. I found this quote important because it made me think about how important genitalia is and how much control it clearly has on a person’s life. I feel like in class we constantly bring up the fact that we do not necessarily think about the genitals a person possesses when we first meet them or talk to them, but it’s interesting that our genitalia is what put us into categories/stereotypes right off the bat. I don’t ever tend to think about the fact that I have a vagina when I think about what makes me, me. I think about all the things I have accomplished, what things I love to do, what things I may hate, but I never think about my genitalia as an important part of me, though after this reading along with previous readings, it is clear that a person’s genitalia is far more relevant than I have ever imagined, especially if it is ambiguous or not what you were necessarily born

Last year, I has Mrs. Sulzbach for English 9 Honors and my favorite thing about her class was probably the people who were in it. Most of the people in my class were very animated and talkative, so they made class discussions fun. Most of the time I find class discussions to be boring and after talking for a while, the conversation normally dies down or people are just repeating the same ideas in different wording, but that never really happened in Mrs. Sulzbach's class. Socratic Seminars were especially fun because the conversation never stopped and a lot of interesting viewpoints were brought up, even if we sometimes strayed onto the weirdest tangents.…

From field trips, to tutorials, our class has been extremely interactive with one another. We have gone on a total of 3 field trips. One to Pacific Lutheran University, one to UW Tacoma, and one to Evergreen State College. Each trip has opened my eyes for possible future options. During each trip I learned of the college campus, the history, and the programs within the college. While learning these things, I had to ask insightful and specific questions. This really has…

If I could change one thing about this class, it would definitely be about the reading. The readings were incredibly numerous and sometimes, I couldn’t finish everything, which led to a serious cycle of me falling incredibly behind. I would’ve loved for a way to cut down the readings, perhaps only read important excerpts or something because the workload was either really hard or very laid back.…

It has gone so incredibly fast. I can honestly say that I am going to miss this class. I am not going to miss the drive to Collinsville, though. I feel that I have grown a great bit while making my way through this Cross Cultural cluster. I never once dreaded having to work all day and then having to go to class and sit for four hours. My classmates are great. As a class, we always made it fun and entertaining. I do hope that I am blessed with having them in class with the rest of my journey seeking my bachelor’s degree. I have plenty of class left to conquer. Lastly, thank you, Professor Anderson! You made this cluster to be unlike any that I have experienced thus far. You made me feel comfortable from day one. I am a real big fan of your spontaneousness and flexibility. You could really feel your passion each night we met. You could tell you wanted to be there teaching us. Again, thank you. And, it would bring me great joy to have you again as my…

This class has been an experience to which I am thankful for. I believe this class should continue to be a must for all incoming freshman here at Concordia. By taking this class I learned so many things about how to successfully adapt from high school classes to college courses. Every day in your class was a new day for me to learn about how to prepare and plan for success for not only the next four years, but also for the rest of my life. The great thing about transitions though, is that I was about to meet so many great new people in my life. With all the interacting done between people in the class, I was able to talk and have conversations with everybody…

Medical Ethics class was out of the ordinary. It was an easy going class, but at the same time opened my eyes to many different issues that go on in my country and how the medical system works. This class gave me the chance to become familiar with rules and regulations of the medical field, which I believe is extremely important for our future as physicians in the U.S. if we want to practice there. This shows that even though it was not an ordinary class, with exams, and professor’s sense of humor, I can honestly state that we learned a whole lot.…

    Abuse In The Classroom

In the classroom a teacher spends the majority of their day with these children, they are the first to note changes in academic standing, behavior, and physical changes. Academic abuse is one that many times most parents do not even realize they do and take actions that are unnecessary to academics. Many parents want their child to do well but when a child does not do well parents blame the children for grades rather than encouraging for doing their best or asking why this grade has occurred, and parent’s response is to usually lash out. In Romeo’s article he said that “3 days after report cards abuse increases by double”; this shows just how much parents care about their children’s grades but do not handle them in proper ways. With abuse…
